Just wondering if my tie-downs are undersized. I have seen some rated for over 1,000 lbs. What do you guys recommend for a 1998 Challenger 1800. The pics show what I am using now. Also, should I crank these things real tight?

I use 2" wide ones for my jet ski so in my opinion yours do look undersized. I don't crank them down hard either, just snug. I've seen guy crank on them and actually crack the gelcoat or worse, rip out the loops.

They will work. More or less... it's just to keep the boat from bouncing around.

BUT... if you want to put some bigger ones on... that's fine too.

Use them and put them snug! I was glad I had mine when I had to brake rapidly at highway speeds a few weeks ago. The boat actually moved forward about 6 inches. To the point the straps were loose because it moved so much. Make sure to snug the front roller up tight also.

Like Doc said, those just keep the boat from bouncing on the bunks.

However, looking at that stitching, I wouldn't use that tie down on anything I cared really about. It looks like the overlap wasn't lined up, and the stitching isn't completely holding the two halves together, it's kind of a mess. Drunken Chinaman at beer:30 put that one together.

You'll probably be fine with it, but just fyi.

I might be looking at it wrong but it looks like the bracket on the trailer is mounted to the light housing which is about ready to fail.

My trailer has the same mounting spots just below the light. It is actually a 1/4" thick or more steel bracket that the light and tie down hook to. The light is just sitting there without any stress being placed on it.
