I tried to remove my thrust washer and it seems to be stuck. Does the washer simply rest on the needle bearing? What's the approved method for removing the washer? I figured it's best to ask first before I screw something up.

Yep... the washer should just drop out. The oil may be holding it... but it's not "Held" in place. This is why your pump may have locked up once you tightened the impeller.

10-4. I bet the grease created a suction...

I found out that penetrating oil worked the best for cleaning out the cone. I washed with soap and water after getting it cleaned out. I air dried it and that part is good to go. Now, I just need to get my bearings cleaned. I was hesitant to try anything fancy before asking.

Thanks Dr.

Use mineral spirits. It will cut the grease, and not hurt the seals. That's what I use to clean packing grease off parts in the shop.
