Hi, i'm new here and wanted to see if anyone may have had this happen to them. I have a 98 gtx ltd with a 951 engine in it. Was on the river yesterday and came to a stop to find it idling at 3000 rpms. Hit the thumb throttle really quick and it settled down. Thought maybe something stuck. So went on riding and it did the same thing again. Tried the same thing with thumb again this time with engine off and the thumb trigger went loose no more resisiance on it like cable or spring of some sort broke. Now when I start it the thing is stuck wide open like its being floored. Any suggesstions. Any info would be apprieciated. Thx Tom:cheers:

Could be a cable failure (broken, seized, kinked or corroded).

Or the lever on the carb has shifted or slipped on the shaft somehow. Maybe a spring slipping somehow.

Take off the air box so you can watch the actuation of the cable to the throttle lever.

possible cable corrosion or early failure on the throttle cable or the butterfly shaft bushings in the carbs going bad or corroded. Salt corrosion on the throttle shaft return springs need to be looked a also.
