Hmmmm............
Are you sure you want a used one? After all, you already have a used one.

OK. They show up on ebay rarely. What does show up more often is the entire intake manifold. The intake, throttles, injectors and....... TPS. Sometimes for $150. Up to $400. Have you tried your local Merc dealer? Sometimes they have old (very) stock. These had a round connector instead of a flat one. 10 minutes with a soldering gun and mine is working well after 4 years. I paid $125 for NOS.

Same unit on 2.5L EFI Merc outboards.

Scrap yards sometimes get in blown motors.

Hi back again...ok so we got a new TPS($600) crazy expensive little part...well it did help...now the boat would rev all the way too 6500 rpms and perfect idle...but from time to time would just go only to 4k rpms WOT...put it back to idle and pushed again and good to 65k rpms...any ideas...thank you.

Alright so bought a new TPS $600 crazy expensive little piece...well it did help some what...the motor now rev to 65k rpms, idle perfect, but sometimes just go only to 4k rpms ...if i put it back on idle and tried again goes to 65k rpms WOT...weird thing...anything else...we got the DDT and nothing is showing...any other ideas...thank you.

Could be............ a lot of things. But narrowed down to 2.....

Intermittent injectors. Not spraying when commanded. You can check the connection of injector harness. Round connector, down low, starboard side. 4 wires. Connector is about 5/8 inch diameter. Keyed for reassembly.

Or - more likely: 2 spark plugs not firing. You need to check which ones are not firing when it is stuck at 4000rpm. Follow the spark plug wires back to the coils. Physically swap the two non-firing coils with any 2 other coils. Does the misfiring follow the coils? At least one of the non-firing coils could be dead. If the misfiring is the same as the original pair, you have an intermittent ignition part. The trigger (timing) base under the flywheel is suspect. Check the insulation on the six wires from the trigger. The old ones had really bad insulation that would crumble over time. There are spec's to check in the Book. Easy. Best to check it when you are stuck at 4000rpm. Shut it down and check. Takes about 5 - 10 minutes. Need a volt-ohm meter.

Got it...thanks for the response...l would check the injector conector and coils for spark plugs.

Hi...l have a question...maybe stupid but here it goes...
Does this 240hp m2 jet drive have an iac valve?
And if they do were is located?
Thanks

The 240 efi engine (sitting atop the M2 jet drive) does not have an Idle Air Control valve. The idle is set via the throttle adjusters on the port-side of the engine and directly affect the throttle butterfly valves. There is no separate IAC valve.

Got it...thanks...also if someone knows of a 175hp carburetor jet drive powerhead for sake please let me know.

Thanks

The 240 actually does have idle air adjustment. It's extremely difficult to access but can be done. It's outlined in the manual as the final step in the timing and TPS setup.

Agreed. There are adjusters for setting the idle via the throttle linkages and idle screw.

But there is no IAC (Idle Air Control) valve... as is common on most fuel injected engines... where a small motor (ECU controlled usually) can open/close a separate air port to control the idle. My 4-stroke jetskis have these.

Cheers!

Hello everyone again, i have a question and i cant find this on the manual for this engine, there is what it looks like a throttle cable that comes from the front into the bottom of the manifold right side if you looking at the engine from the rear seat, is just hanging and i cant find a place to put it in can you guys please help if you know what this little cable is?

Thank you

Also...the TPS I bought was damage...lm waiting on the new one...crazy question...would this boats turn on without a TPS?...Also my key is going all the way around...is that crazy.

if your key is going all the way around... it sounds like the nut is lose that holds the harness.
If that has gone around a time or two... you may want to look at the back of it to be sure all the wires are still connected

Anybody have a link to a new oem tps? For cheap?

There is no such thing as a cheap oem tps. They are running about $600 now.
However--- if you can find a shop or dealer that has new old (really old) stock tps that has the round connector, they may sell it for $150. 15 minutes with a soldering gun and you could have a functioning tps. Mine has been 4 years operational.

This boat ...l swear is driving me insane...l guest is not mean to be fix...lt would no go above 3500rpms...new tps, new computer, new trigger, new cdms, new gas filters, new fuel pump, new gas, new spark plugs, new neutral switch...and still would go over 3500 rpms...any other ideas...before l get rid off ...l believe is one of the worst mercury engines....loosing my head on this one...and everything is checking ok as per manual.

I think you said the problem is sometimes it will operate normally and go up to 6500 RPM, and sometimes it will only go to 3500 RPM.
Is your problem still the same?
