Hello all. I am seriously considering purchasing a 1998 16 foot Speedster that seems to be very well cared for. I am curious if parts/service are getting hard to come by for this boat. I've seen these boats around from time to time and have wanted one for quite awhile. They just look like a lot of fun. I almost pulled the trigger on a smaller '97, but I ran across this '98 and like the idea of having room for 5.
Could anyone please advise? I do not want to purchase something for which parts are becoming impossible to find. Also, are the parts easier to find for the 1997 speedsters than the 16 foot speedsters?

Thank you very much.

The only part that is hard to get, is the MPEM. (the computer) All the "Normal" wear parts are EASY !! (engine parts, starters, switches, pumps, seals etc)

With that said... if you loose a seat, or a chassis part... you can't buy it new... but there are people who are parting out boats... so you can find them.

Buy the boat, and enjoy.

I dont really agree with the spend lots of money part. My 98 was very reliable. If the previous owner took care of it, you have nothing to worry about. I bought my 98 with 68 hours on it, and it was in great shape. In 4 years the ONLY thing I HAD to spend money on was routine maintenance which cost me about $30 a year. But I did spend about $3500 in modifications...but that isnt a necessity.

did the 98 have an hour meter, and the 99 SK didn't? Otherwise, how do you know it had 68? I still to this date dont' know if I have a 98 or 99 lol?

No hour meter. I had a dealer print out from previous owner. I also have a buddy who is a former sea doo mechanic who has BUDS software on his laptop and can check it for me.

Plan to spend Lots of Money! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

lol
Well. "Lots" is relative.
As boats go, these little Sea Doos aren't that expensive, IMHO.
When the SD coughs it cost me a hundred or two. When my big boat coughs (36 ft Carver) it cost thousands. :cuss:

And on the SD there isn't enough room to add much of anything, so available real estate limits how much you can spend on "accessorizing"
