Just wanted to catalog the things I got accomplished on my (son's) 1996 Speedster and thank all whose wisdom I tapped on this forum:
  1. Sent off both carbs for rebuilding (thanks, Dr. Honda)
  2. Replaced the wear ring in one pump; sent the other to OSD for a more comprehensive rebuild, inc impeller
  3. Replaced the two batteries w/ a Cabellas AGM 24-class battery (thanks SDF)
  4. Added an onboard dedicated battery maintainer for the AGM battery
  5. Added battery cutoff switch & marine plug for maintainer extension cord
  6. Replaced the balky dess post, giving me fewer false starts w/ the DESS keys (thanks, CanDooPro)
  7. Replaced the seat cushion vinyl on the back seat. Created an innovative pneumatic ratchet driver w/ a 1 ft long extension so I could unscrew/screw back the seat (much cussing required; thanks, SeaDoo!). Pneumatic stapler highly recommended!
  8. Plucked LOTS of fiberglass fibers out of my hands(!)
Suffice it to say, I did my due diligence and read up on all the tips on this forum. Thanks to all of those who posted the nuggets of info that I used to get it accomplished and make the Speedster go like a bat out of h3ll! It smokes just a little more at idle, but everything else is working pretty well.

Jim (waiting for something to break)

More info on this wonder tool, please. I'm about to start taking out my back seat to recover. Been avoiding it. Sounds like I need to make a tool like yours before I start. :)
