So after a long painful search for a seadoo, i finally found got something. man am i happy with it. I ended up driving 4 hours to northern minnesota to see this 97 xp that looked good on craigslist. some of you guys helped me out a bunch on deciding if i should go with this or get something else. the poll seemed to be very accurate haha.( "what seadoo to pick" )

well i got the XP. i was amazed by how perfect this thing was. the second he popped the hood, i knew i was going to buy it. i have never seen such a clean engine. looked brand new. not a spec of oil in this thing. even the exhaust was clean white still throughout the whole thing. It starts and runs perfect. it came with a trailer and a shorelift. i think im going to sell the shorelift because i dont own lake property, i can go to my grandparents cabin any time but i dont think they have room for this thing. trailer is mint but it doesnt have a crank on it.

im really excited to take this beast out on the lake but it has been 55 degrees and rainy past few days and it is going to continue like this for a week i guess. screw MN!

I am trying to think of cheap mods for this but the thing is so perfect that i dont want to change much. getting hydroturf asap tho. maybe flame arresters? i have a really cool way to put a sound system in it also but i dont know if i will do it now or save it for a winter project.

wanted to thank all the guys that told me the pros and cons of the 97 xp. very good stuff to know!

check out the pics!

Glad you found a good one, man!! Thanks for sharing the pics. Have fun and be safe. Sorry to hear about the weather.

yeah well its finally going to be in the 80s starting saturday. wont have time to ride then but ill be out next week monday for sure. just detailing my xp really good now.

awesome choice, big...But....leave'ur alone. A set of arrestors aint gonna do nuth'n, but give you a headache...carb adjustments, settings...etc. It runs, so, go play...

yeah, exactly what was holding me from doing it. i just hate that big black air filter thingy because its always in the way for when i do work on seadoos. i also sold that shorelift for $400 haha. :hurray:

Nice xp. Looks real clean. Has the starter been replaced? I would have loved to get that lift from you but too far away... also are you planning on de-stickering?

yeah im thinking all black decals. looks so sick. my friends xp has all black check it out

You want to know the best thing about it? You are towing it with a Dodge Dakota! Nice ride. The first mod I would do is to change out those grey fuel lines with something better. I almost bought one of those my self. Found mine cheaper.

Yeah all black looks good. I chose to just leave mine de stickered. But mine is also unlike any XP ive seen.

heh, well i dont really like my dakota too much. yeah it works really good for towing. it has a v8. but no 4wd and only gets like 12 mpg.

i took a look at those dang stock matts. they have like rivets holding them in. what is the best way to take the old matts off? i ordered that hydro turf and its coming next tuesday.

yeah that 01 xp looks nice with no stickers. that yellow sticks out funny tho. that must be a after market seat cover?

You need to go to one of the Dakota forums and see if you can get some help with it. If it has the 4.7L then I can give you some help. If it is a pushrod motor then I'm not much up on them but I'm not completely stupid when it comes to them. Just haven't worked on one.

took it out today. ran really good. FAST. on my speedometer it said 62 mph and it was choppy. cavitated a little bit with my girlfriend on the back but i just adjusted the VTS and it leveled out. the water is still pretty cold here in MN and i was trying not to get wet because i was wearing clothes. but i started getting too cocky on the thing and i flung myself right off it. after that, i had trouble starting the engine again. i had to crank it pretty long. what do you think that is from?

not a drop of water in the engine compartment. but yeah the water was pretty dang cold. MN needs a nice heatwave before the 4th of july. i will put 50 hours on my ski that week. really cant wait.

i also got my hydro turf yesterday. i plan on trying to drill out the rivets and then sealing the rivet holes with silicone or something. then using contact cement to put the turf on.

:hurray:

Glad to hear it runs good for the most part, and man, if that was my ski id leave the engine stock.. the black graphic kit would be cool, and maybe it was hard to start b.c of bad plugs?

plugs are new. it only had that trouble starting that one time after engine was warm. i want to do the black decals but they are so expensive. anyone know a cheap way to get seadoo decals ?

the hydro turf. it turned out decent. some spots didnt stick very good but i touched it up later. if anyone wants some pointers on how to do this ask me, i did almost everything wrong and learned from every mistake possible i think.:hat:
