The misadventures of Captain Theo Blowhard, SS Seadoo....

My dad is retired, and still enjoys the XP, and has decided to take it offshore and try his luck at fishing. He is not a very eloquent guy, and types one finger at a time (and in all caps, sorry), but this is what he wrote after his first fishing trip...Enjoy.

THE GREAT SEADOO MAIDEN FISHING VOYAGE. GOT MY BAIT FISHING POLE IS TIED OFF ON THE PORT SIDE,IS THAT RIGHT OR LEFT? THE ORDER COMES DOWN LET GO THE FORE AND AFT LINES,THAT'S EASY,FRONT AND BACK. ENGINE IS STARTED,THAT GREAT CAPT. THEO BLOWHARD IS AT THE HELM, ALL AHEAD 1/4.AS WE MOVE OUT OF THE BOAT RAMP AREA AND IN TO THE MAIN CHANNEL,SOME FISH ARE WORKING ,AND THE DOLPHIN ARE POPPING UP HERE AND THERE.

AS WE MAKE OUR WAY TOWARD THE GULF THE SWELLS ARE PICKING UP SOME.THE 60 MILE BUOY SAID 3 FT. AND LIGHT WINDS FROM THE SOUTH. AFTER WHAT SEEMS LIKE A LIFETIME WE REACH THE END OF THE JETTY AND TURN PORT,LEFT I THINK. WE ARE NOW IN THE OPEN GULF,STEADY AS SHE GOES FOR 1/4 OF A MILE "BRING HER INTO THE WIND" SHOUTS CAPT. BLOWHARD AND HE CUTS THE ENGINE.

THIS IS THE LIFE,LINE IN THE WATER SLOWLY RISING UP AND DOWN,WAVES ARE SHOULDER HIGH,SLOWLY DRIFTING ,THAT'S WHEN IT HAPPENED. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH CREW,IS IT SCURVY,SOME KIND OF PLAGUE? ONE LOOK AT THE GREAT CAPT.THEO BLOWHARD AND IT'S CONFIRMED. CAPT.BLOWHARD IS STARTING TO TURN GREEN AROUND THE GILLS.

WE FIRE UP THE ENGINE AND HEAD TOWARD CALMER WATER,BUT NOT BEFORE THE GREAT CAPT. TRIES TO BARF ABOUT 6-8 TIMES.

THE STORY ENDS WELL AS WE PULL BACK TO THE DOCK.

He said he fished for a total of 15 minutes before being overcome...

It probably took him an hour to type this up.

Kinda funny, especially when you think that he was raised on a 60' fishing boat off the coast of Long Beach, CA. but cannot take the 3' rise and fall of a 96 XP.

lol very entertaining to read :)

and props to him for trying to fish off the SeaDoo....it is definitely a challenge to do!

Yeah, he is getting pretty adventurous. 2 weeks ago, he tried cast-netting off of it (he is 200 lbs, and this is a 96 XP single seater, really unstable). Well, he casted, pulled it back in, and started the engine up, and a loop of rope was still in the water, sucked into the jet, and yanked him by the wrist into the water. He got to spend the next 2 hours cutting rope out of the intake.

I did NOT get a funny email from him that day...:ack:

I suppose in the next installment of his story, he will catch something really big and get towed out to an oil rig. You guys will be able to read that one in the newspaper.:reddevil:

I have a 3seater and my niece has a 95xp, there is no balance point on the 2seater hull, how can he stay on while stopped?

It is a squirrely monster, but we have figured out how to keep our balance on it.

Oh, we fall off all the time, and reentry is difficult, especially for a 60 year old arthritic 200 lb old guy. But he has figured it out and can do it well enough that he is not afraid to take it out and toss fishing lines or cast nets off of it.

He even jumped some HUGE waves last year and took a fall that landed him in the hospital with MANY stitches up his leg (let go and jumped off the ski about 12' in the air). Then had to re-enter the ski in the waves and go back out through the surf bleeding profusely through an 18" long gash, 2 miles back out around the jetty, and 2 miles in to the boat ramp, load it himself, get home, drive to the hospital, 2 nights there.

Then since he got so much nasty gulf saltwater in it, he landed back in the hospital a week later for ANOTHER WEEK until they could get the infection down.

He really shouldn't be on this thing, but oh well, he enjoys the crap out of it...

Sorry about the graphic nature of that last post. I should have warned...

I thought for sure he was going to give up on the XP, but he cleaned it up and winterized it (doc wouldn't let him in the water the rest of the year), then this spring, he dewinterized it, put in a new battery, and back on the water, just taking it easy on the waves and only jumping on small days.

XP was free, so that is what we ride on.

He has since figured it out and fishes on it 2 or 3 times a week now. No more mishaps.

But give him time...:hat:
