Tell tail not flowing

My tell tail is not squirting on my 97 GTI when running in the water or at least I can't see it. When I hook a hose up to it and run it out of the water the tell tail flows water. How strong should this flow be? Checked the hoses but could not see anything obvious. I am not getting any beeeeep while running in the water either.

Also, I pulled the plugs and checked the compression and both cylinders were 130 psi. I see in a lot of the posts that I have read that it should be around 150 psi. Is this normal for an 11 year old engine? Still seams to run strong on the water.

That compression of 150psi is the ideal amount of psi per cylinder. The key is that both cylinders are close to each other. If you had 100 psi and 130psi, then you might have a problem. The "Tell Tail" is exactly that. It should have some pressure coming out as it is in the beginning of the circulation of water. The temp of the sensor buzzer is 120*. I would check the cooling lines for some blockage. It could be accumulating of sand in the cylinder cavities. in the cooling system. I would just keep an eye on it and be sure the temp sensor is working. Connect the wire to ground and it should beep. Place the sensor in a pan of hot water and it should have continuity from bottom to the plug spade on top...don't get scolded with the water.

I have flow

I disconected the hose from the Jet pump and installed a hose connection into the end. I hooked up the water hose and started the engine then turned the water on. I had flow comming out of the tell tail as well as the flush pipe and the exhaust. :hurray: The flow only came out about 6" so I guess this is why I can't see it when I am running in the water.

Yeah it doesn't squirt out much, unlike other brands.

On the outside of the Hull is a hose connection that you can use to connect water hose to already. It is above the jet pump nozzle area Be sure to start the pwc first, than turn on water and shut off water before shutting down engine. This will keep the water from flooding the engine.

10-4

I have used that flush connection before but I hooked it up to the inlet hose this time to make sure the tell tail was flowing with the water entering from the pump side. That tell tail is hard to see when sitting on the doo. I am going to put it in the water again and see if I can get a better look at it and make sure that I don't have a flow problem from the pump.

Thanks for the info.

ckeck the hose connecting the pipe to the exhaust, if it looks burnt inside, theres not enough water flow. i have almost the same issues, till the hose got a hole in it and lost power. i haqve not figured out the problem yet but im working on it, ill keep you posted on fixes

Test past, I think?

OK, I checked the hose to the tail pipe and it looked good.

We took the Seadoo to the lake today so I could check the tell tail out in the water. I let my daughter drive so that I could watch the tell tail. It started to flow when we reached ~15 mph and progressively got stronger when we increased speed. Is this acceptable?

Thanks

The "tell tail" should have water coming out at idle. Keep a ear on the beeper to listen for a solid beep when the engine temp exceeds 120*f( I think that was the temperature). If it is a solid BEEEEEEEEEEEP it is getting dangerously hot.

No Beep

Well I have not heard it beeeeep yet but I don't always get the two beeps either. When I place the key on the post I don't hear the beeps but it will always starts. Not sure why I don't get the two beeps. Could it be a problem with the horn?

Thanks

The unit doesn't use the horn...I would locate it and see if it vibrates...it might just be a bad beeper. Go to radio shack and get one to replace it, especially if you might have a over heat problem. It should cost like $15.00 or something. use the old plug from the old beeper...cut the wires and solder and shrink wrap them and use the water proof end again...then you will know it is over heating or not. Keep an eye on the "tell tail".
