I Live in Tennessee and I'm going to Florida for vacation next week. I am wondering if I need to get tags for my Seadoo Trailer? I was told that some states require it and if I go through one of those states I would possibly get pulled over and given a ticket....

Yep, get'em. Gotta have'em if your going out of state. You gonna drag it all the way to Florida? Have fun with that.

Yap I hope so I just bought this GTS so I hope to have lots of fun with her... Are the tags expensive? Are they a one time thing or do I have to reregester every year?

Thanks
Chris

You have to register it every year if you plan on going out of sate every year. You also need the title to the trailer to get it registered, so I was told.

and if i dont have the title... so if I don't go out of state every year than I dont have to keep the registation up to date...

All I was told was you gotta have the trailer title to get it registered. I don't know what you do if you don't have a title for the trailer. Call your county clerks office and see. Yeah if your just going this one time just pay for it once, then just let it expire.

To my knowledge trailers dont have titles. At least in florida. I have had several boat trailers and other trailers and not one of them had a title. Just registration. Im convinced that you dont need a tag in florida. I bought a boat about a month ago and towed it back about 300 miles on I-75 and didnt get stopped once. And i out the boat in and out evey few weeks without a tag and havent gotten stopped yet. (knock on wood) But to my understanding the ticket for not having a tag is like 80 dollars. And no tag is better then the wrong tag, get cought with the wrong tag and its a felony...

jet ski trailers do not have titles b/c they dont weigh over a certain limit at least here in texas would assume other states are similar. my tags were 50ish after paying all of the fees with transfer of ownership, reg etc. boat tags were another 83 after all fees with stated above and title transfer.

hope you have a lot of fun on the ski.

Now way! If you had to follow different laws that every state tried to impose it would be a major nightmare for everyone. You should only need to follow the laws in Tennessee. However, it doesn't prevent a highway patrol officer from pulling you over. They will have probable cause to pull you over since they can't see your Tennessee license plate on your vehicle. If you get pulled over, insist that you followed every law that the state of Tennessee requires. You'll probably get some crack like, "this is Florida." Reiterate that you live in Tennessee and have followed every law required by the state of Tennessee.

What if Tennessee decided to pass a law that states every trailer must be pink for safety purposes. Then Tennessee could start ticketing everyone pulling a trailer from every other state that doesn't have a pink trailer. Talk about the mess. It's almost as bad as Georgia trying to move the state line to steal our water!

Think about it!

Most trailers are registered at the same time the seadoo is registered. In Florida you just need the numbers from the seadoo to get it registered. If in doubt...call you local DMV office to confirm about out of state use. Better safe than sorry and with a ticket. I'm a Florida Certified Car Dealer.

Holcom is right....

Holcom is right. With the exception of ATF (alcohol, firearms and tobacco) laws, the state of your residency is the laws that must follow. The guest state will accept those laws.

If you had to do something like that, then would that mean you have to also apply for a front tag on your car for states you pass through that require it? No....follow the laws of your state.

However, if you want to be hassle free, check into it at your local DMV. If you do purchase a trailer tag, it shouldn't be more that $10 bucks...
