Just got my 787 in yesterday from SBT with all the needed gaskets, etc. We're going to do the oil block off as recommended as well. I have the instructions but are there anything other little things we should look for or tips? Any helpful hints is appreciated. Thanks!

take your time, double check all conections, dont micky mouse anything. dont over torq the bolts. if your doing a straight engin swap, you will be fine, just make sure you have no parts left over and all connections are conneted.

Manual?

I'm going to assume you have manual of some sort. If I remember right, SBT sends out an instruction booklet that outlines your procedure.

The above post are good, especially the one about "taking your time". I think SBT gives you ten days to make your swap, get that old motor crated up and sent back. So, don't be in a hurry.

Make sure, you pay very close attention to your MAG's top dead center setting and the procedure for installing your rotary valve. You can be one tooth off, either side of center but that's as flexible as they get.

Good luck and if you run into problems, I'm reading in your thread that you have a lot of good help.............

Thanks for the replies guys. We have the engine in and all seems to have gone well. I wasn't too impressed with SBT's instructions though. The engine we pulled out was from SBT as well. Not quite a confidence booster there but we weren't able to find why the one side blew the rings and part of the piston top. I took a pic of the inside I'll try to get on. We got the boat fired up and were in the process of trying to adjust the carbs when we agreed that it would be better to get a rebuild kit. So we called it a day. We did find lying in the bottom of the boat what we later discovered was the driveshaft bumper. I'm not 100% sure it came out when we pulled the engine or was already there from the previous engine swap. So, I guess we're going to have to at least pull that shaft to check.
