my 2000 gti was running on synth oil,but when the red oil light came on i put a gallon of xps mineral in it ....will this harm the motor??::confused:

You cannot mix the two. I wouldnt run it with those two mixed together. You must drain the tank, lines and rotary valve chamber. Purge the lines with the new oil that you use and then bleed the air out.

Synth/mineral Mix

 Thanks for the info, would of thought the seadoo dealer i bought the oil from would of asked me what was in it ! maybe he wants me back to rebuild the motor !! Jesus who can u trust ?

Fairly simple....

Just remove the oil vent line going to the top of your oil tank, loosen the oil cap and attach that vent line house up to an oil vacuum pump. You should be able to get one at your local auto store.

Ahhh, but yes, you will....

Ahhh, but yes, you will. That vent line is coming from the bottom of the rotary chamber. So, if you remove the oil through that vent line, when the tank is empty and sucking air, then your rotary chamber is empty.

The other oil line, going to your injector pump, it can be done, but it's so hard to get to and you have to make sure there is no air trapped. When I did mine, I removed the oil pump, used a special tool I made, attached it to my drill motor and primed my oil lines. It was a pain. The problem with mixing the oils would present itself mostly in blending the two together in an area of the rotary chamber, where the mix could have a potential to harm the rotary seals.

The oil left in the injector lines, if you drain the oil tank, then fill it? You'll have no air in the injector lines and the oil pump should pull this oil evenly through the small tubing, keeping it from mixing together. This will save from not only priming the oil injection system, but making sure you don't have any trapped air in there as well. The engine is going to burn it when it crosses from one blend to the next without a hiccup. It's only mixing the oil that presents the problem.

synth/mineral mix

Drained the tank through the filler(with vacume pump) then took off all the lines from the tank and sucked them out,so if i get this right,i re-fill the tank with the new lube, fill the lines, connect lines back on tank, open bleed screw(but dont turn motor)wait till just oil flows, run engine at idle whilst fully opening oil pimp disc(for how long?)...is that about it? what is best for the 2000 gti synth or min? obviously i want to put the best i can back in there.A grrrrreat big thanks for your advice so far, Gary

synth/mineral mix

just called my local doo dealer about the min oil he sold me and he says xps mineral is the correct oil for a 2000 gti,( £25 a gal as opposed to £50 a gal for xps synth)($50 vs $100):ack:

Mixing Synthetic and Mineral is like oil and vinagar mixed.

I keep hearing about it being "bad" to mix...exactly WHY and what does it do if you mix?

Use High quality low ASH API TC Injector oil.
Do Not use NMMA TC-W, TC-W2 or TC-W3 outboard motor oils or other ash less type 2 cycle oil. Avoid mixing different brands of API TC oil as resulting chemical reaction will cause severe engine damage. Never mix Mineral or synthetics oil together.

So, If I bought a gallon and put it in my seadoo when I got it, and it hasn't cratered the engine by now, did I get the right stuff?

I never paid attention to the color, I just dumped it in and ran it. It was nearly full when I acquired the seadoo, I added another gallon of seadoo brand, and I am about halfway through my 2nd gallon now which I bought from Academy. I don't have the bottle of the academy stuff because I dumped it into the SeaDoo bottle. I remember it clearly said "approved for use in Seadoo...etc." or I would not have bought it.

Would the resulting catastrophe have happened by now if I mixed the wrong stuff in?

I just checked...

Still not sure what was in the tank when I bought it, but the first gallon I bought to add to it was Bombardier Mineral XP-S.

The stuff I have in there now is a pretty purple color.. .

Did I mix the stuff? What color is the Mineral oil?

do you think I could mix these safely.

These are the same two oils I have been mixing. He never got an answer when he posted it, likely due to the INFORMATION OVERLOAD!!!:ack:

So, can they be mixed?

I was using Bombardier XP-S Synthetic oil in my 97 spx.I normally would not mix the oil but they do not carry the XP-S where I live any more so I switched to CITGO low smoke supergard sea and snow .On the back it says that it is synthetic and that it will run in Bombardier skidoo. seadoo.

Exactly the situation I am currently in...

Never mind...

I just found out that the boat I am buying has XPS in it, so I will buy a couple gallons and a new filter, and do the swap BACK to XPS on my XP so I don't accidentally mix them again...

Can I still burn the rest of the Citgo stuff as premix in my fuel?

I would recomend that you do as engine manufacture suggest. I say this because I believe it is best and do not want anyone to think that I have gave them bad info. Now for the crazy stuff I have never in my life time had a engine failure due to low compression or a thrown rod I have seen many but all engines seem to have been ran low or out of oil. I do not change my auto or any other equiptment oils as recomended and I [do] mix deferent blends from time to time. I do not mix oils intentionaly just some times if I am low and that is all I have I will use it. I do get many years out of my vehicles. 300,000 miles and then I give them away. they are all still runing when I give them away. I changed my oil about every 10 to 20 thousand miles. Alot of the new big trucks these days only require oil change every 25 thousand miles. With all this said I dout that you would experiance engine failure buy mixing diferent blends there is the possability that they could eat at your seals over time. I do not practice this in engines like my seadoo but like I have said I have done this for years in other engines and hydrolic pumps and rams as well. Either I have been super lucky for many years or the big oil scare is a little over board. :hurray: :stupid:

Just got back from buying XPS oil, new filter, and looking at the boats...

Mechanic said that the two oils tend to clump when mixed, and will eat at your seals. He also said that eventually, a clump could clog your injector leading to no oil and failed engine. "COULD"

Just reporting what I was told.

Besides, I always complained that my oil consumption was less than expected, like almost nothing, which is why I premix 80:1, just in case.

Regardless, I am draining my oil tomorrow, and replacing with XPS. Been needing a new filter anyway, so doing that too.
