Surging - 98 GTX

Hi All,

Just had the Seadoo serviced and dewinterised a couple of weeks ago. Took her out and ran perfectly.

Took her out again yesterday and noticing some slight surging in power (especially when towing at around 20mph).

We had this same surging last year but seemed to clear after a couple of weeks (assumed it was just something to do with dirty filters...may be wrong though).

Still running grey fuel lines so will change those asap. However, should i be thinking of having the carbs stripped and the filters cleaned? I bought the ski (Seadoo GTX Limited 98) after an engine rebuild by a Seadoo Authorised Dealer - Had the 10 hour service, then used for about 20 hours before tucking away for the winter. Just had dewinterisation and service.

Any thoughts on the surging? Brand new battery on the ski as well.

Finally, when going through the dashboard, noticed that "L Temp" was 130 degrees. I stopped, kept checking for heat and it was all over the place going from 115 degrees to 130 degrees within a couple of seconds, before rising to 130 degrees again, which is stayed at 20 minutes after it was out of the lake.

I am guessing a faulty sensor - I hope!

Any ideas?

yeah, replace the lines, and you'd be better off, rip'n the carbs out, not necessary rebuild them, but a cleaning/internally, would not hurt them. For temp sensor, hate pis'n money away, but being 98, probably not bad investment for 30 buks for new one...

thanks for the quick reply timmyboy!

Is there a specific component for the L Temp sensor that I can just purchase as a single item. Also, is it easy to fit?

With regards to the cleaning of the carbs - is this a job that can be completed with common sense or is it advisable to take this to the dealer to do?

I have the relevant manual for my 98.

hey Grey...apologies for the L-Temp situation, just not inclined on that subject, maybe its listed in manual somewhere. i jumped the gun, and didnt realize what ur sayn about it, so with regards to "not functioning" right, I assumed the "temp sensor" on motor was faulty...:ack:
As for carbs, common sense stud, one part atta time. Remove airbox, cables, bolts hold'n carbs to manifold, disconnect fuel line/s, then pop carbs off. From there, clean/rebuild, one side of carb atta time...

Cleaning the internal filters in the carbs is rather easy. The most difficult thing is getting them off and even that isn't to bad. Just take your time and make sure when you put everything back together you use some thread locker so the bolts won't back them selves out.

Good luck!
