About four years ago I had a 97 GSX and loved this ski. I end up selling it when we purchased our Speedster 200. Fast forward now 4 years and my son now wanted us to get another jetski so he could ride. I decided to look for another GSX during the month of June. As you can imagine they are a little hard to find in good condition. I came across one about 45 minutes away from me. He was asking $1500 including a trailer and cover and I was able to purchase it for $1300. The ski had perfect compression at 150 on both cylinders and only had 72 hours. The big problem was it had been sitting in the water for a very long time and the bottom of the ski was white in color. The ski was VERY dirty and needed some work. I decided if I was going to fix this ski up I wanted something that would be very dependable so I decided to stick some money into it. 4 months later I have a great little ski and has been a blast to ride this summer. Unfortunately my son accidently deleted the pics we took before we started to work on the ski but this is what it looks like now. I did the following to the ski:

  1. Rebuilt Carbs
  2. New fuel lines and filter
  3. Replace fuel selector switch
  4. Drain and replaced oil and oil filter
  5. Changed oil lines
  6. Replace spark plugs
  7. Clean RAV valves
  8. Repair F1 fuse issue on fuel sending unit
  9. Changed out Speedo unit
  10. Installed new Wear ring
  11. Changed nozzle cup oil
  12. Installed new carbon seal
  13. Installed a set of mirrors
  14. Installed new Seadoo Racing decal
  15. Wet sanded and buffed complete ski
  16. Install new grips
  17. Installed hydro turf
  18. Install boarding step
  19. Install new voltage regulator
  20. Cleaned inside of engine compartment
  21. Install a new beeper
  22. Install relay for VTS
  23. Son added Rebel Decal

Nice work!! The boarding step is preference I guess, I just don't see the benefit of it. Actually the way I ride on my GSX I'd be afraid it would rip right off or fall into a down position.

The boarding step was added more for my son to help him get back on. He was scared of riding it and falling off and not being able to get back on. Purchased it used for $65

Nice work, that Doo looks beautiful.

I have to say that all of the restorations you guys do are really impressive.

Can you post some inside the hull pictures?
I just picked up a 89 GSX Limited but it will need some work

carb setup with plastics
This will be a big project
This will be a engine pull as it seems to be locked up.
Carbs were missing but I looks like I have hardware and plastic for them.
Just can find much detailed pictures for this ski.
Thank for any help you can offer.

This is a 1997 GSX thread so it will not be the same as your 1998.

I bought a 1997 GSX and ordered mirrors for it as it has one hole in the hood on each side. My mirrors came with a black spacer and two bolts to mount. I didn't see the spacer on yours. How did you mount it?

my mirrors was a rush job and I think they are really not in the correct spot. I cut down the black spacer to make them work. My bolts are really to long and need to be cut down but just have not had time to do. I wish I spent more time installing them but wanted to get them on the the 4th weekend last year and only had a day to do
