And relatively cheap. All I need is to find my way back to a starting point, and it would be cool if I could move it from car to boat. Maybe even check out my actual speed.
I only ask because the GPS systems run from $55 up to $800 and I am not sure what I need for what I am using it for. I don't want to spend $800 if I can get what i need for $50-100...
I use a Garmin e-trex. You can mark your way points and you check speed km/miles distance travelled etc. Its water prof but it doesn't float. It's great for the water but not good for road travel. I ended up getting a tom tom for the roads much better. The e-trex is cheap small and does the job on the water. I use it for my pwc.
I've got a Garmin GPSMAP 76Cx. It's waterproof, floats, you can add lake map information to it. It's a sweet little unit and can be had on eBay for around $230 shipped. We use it only for our boat and quad. For the Road we've got a Pioneer AVIC Z2 in our car and a Pioneer AVIC S2 in my truck. The S2 is cheap and portable but only works well for onroad situations.
What's the difference between GARMIN GPSMAP 76Cx and the 76CSX? It appears that the 76CSX has compass and altimeter functionality for $15 more on Ebay.
Anybody using their GPS on a PWC? I would like to mount it to my RXP. There is a mount on Ebay. I wonder if I could mount that to the flip-top lid on the compartment between the seat and steering column?
I'm pretty sure that's the only difference between the two. There are a number of different mounts for these and they are very solid. We have a handle bar mount on the quad and I can almost get thrown off but it doesn't come out of the holder. I don't have a mount yet for the boat.
