Sudden engine shutdown.

I have a 2001 Islandia w/Mercury 240 EFI M2. I was running for about 20-25 minutes at approximately 35 MPH when the engine just shutdown. I came to a complete stop, placed the "gear shift" in neutral and attempted to restart. Engine turned, attempted to "catch", but never fully caught. I checked all electrical connections (good), fuses (good), fuel and oil were topped off before launch. It just seems like no fuel is being fed to the engine. We anchored and relaxed for about 60-90 minutes and tried to restart again. It just barely started, puttered for a few seconds and then stalled again. We eventually ended up being towed back to the ramp. I'm going to pull the fuel filter and lines to make sure they're clean, but does anyone have suggestions on other common things to check? Thanks.

I would start with a compression check to make sure the engine is OK.

If that checks out... I would check the fuel pressure at the valve on the regulator.
