Sucked up a beer can...

My 1999 Challenger did...anyway. It was caught up in the impeller when I got it back on the trailer. It is reving and not really moving forward.

Sounds like from all the replies that I need to replace the wear ring so I got a removal tool and three wear rings coming on Friday...plan to replace all and have a spare.

The Shaft Protector got a 1/2 inch piece that broke free on the bottom end. Not sure if I really need to replace this as well.

There are some very small burs on the impeller.

Any thoughts on replacing these parts? Any place to get cheap impellers?

Also....I had the boat running around 50mph and I was messing with the reverse cable and afterward the boat was only running 40mph. I did replace the plugs (even tried the old ones back so that is not the issue).

I saw posts about adjusting the cables and wear rings (again).

Could taking the throttle/reverse controls out and putting them back in slip the cable adjustment enough to slow the boat down 10mph?

I'm working on the boat this weekend so any input will be greatly apprecited...loved the boat when it could jump out of the hole.

Let me get this straight...

Your doo wanted a beer.

the beer wanted to hurt your doo

Now, you are spending money, on your doo?

What kind of beer?

(sorry, it just struck a funny bone!)

Its possible that the adjustment you did was a little too much. Check the manual to the correct procedure to adjusting the reverse gate. I could spend like 1/2 hour explaining it and it is in print in the manual already. You need to be sure that the carbs are opening fully to achieve full throttle. Again verify with the manual that they are doing what they should be doing.

throw the beer cans off the back of the boat, not out front. cable adjustment. put in forward and eyeball the reverse gates. is one hanging down into the water flow path? if not, it isn't a reverse gate issue.

My flavor...

You are not the only one who sees the irony in this...

360....hit a wake an empty flew out. Sucked it right in. I've only had it a week or so.

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't change the throttle but might have loosened something. I don't think the gate is coming down but will double check that.

A prop shop can repair the impeller for much less than buying a new one.

Thanks for all your help on this one.

I put the new rings in an took the burrs off with a metal file. Boat ran about 44mph so I am very happy.

I would like to get 5mph or so more out of it but am not complaining. Trying the adjustment of the throttle cables and maybe this winter will clean the Rave valve.

It sounds like one of the engines is struggling a bit out of the hole then smooths out.
