What made you think the old one was bad and what makes you think the new one is bad?

They don't go bad very often.

hi Tim,
your always on this forum helping others, thank you.
that question has rolled around my head since the failure seems identical and very strange. about a year ago the smoking was excessive. I found the fuel pressure about 36 with no vacuum to regulator but pressure increased with vacuum on FPR. I replaced FPR and saw 36 with no vacuum and pressure dropped with vacuum. Almost a year later the smoke returns and regulator is 43 with no vacuum and increases with vacuum, to 50. very strange. I don't know if there is any way the high pressure fuel pump could really be the problem., but it has crossed my mind. You may remember my last post few weeks ago where i tried to compensate for high fuel pressure by adjusting Brucato Computer fuel trims. But pressure has gotten worse and needs fixed. I have seen your post on using a remote standard FPR but I am looking to get this running right and then move onto a newer boat and a custom FPR setup might hurt selling it

Turns out there are several FPR that , from the pictures on web, look likely to physically fit, but they never list the PSI. After reading dozens of forum threads i found someone that specifically said part # 805227A1 is 37 PSI.

I will head down to mercury marine parts store and see if they have one to compare to mine, should be about$100.
Hopefully a parts dealer can confirm PSI.

I spent more than one hour looking at Rock Auto fpr. There were several that were look-a-likes. They never spec the pressure.

I could not bring myself to pay $300 for a $30 part. I installed an aftermarket generic fpr. Running well for a couple of years.

Local mercury parts store had no inventory, so i gambled and got one off ebay. Installed it and idled in driveway. I can report the part is a good substitute . mechanically matched the old part, fuel pressure is same.
