Stupid Question - String on GTX Driveshaft

Stupid Question

Doing my spring cleaning I found a string wrapped around the driveshaft on my 2005 Sea Doo GTX. The string is wrapped around the shaft cleanly so I am not sure if the string part of the original equipment or something I picked up on the lake.

Can anyone tell me if the string is supposed to be on the driveshaft?

The string is not part of your original equipment. Was it on the inside of the hull or outside. There is a carbon ring were the shaft goes through the hull that stops the water from getting in if you are not the original owner and this is were you found the strig maybe someone tried to use it as a seal so thay did'nt have to change the carbon ring? But if it was on the outside cut it free.
