HI everyone this is a really silly question but i need to ask it.

Should i be able to turn the steering wheel when the boat is off, no power to anything no engines running?

had a friend tell me that i would not be able to turn whists no engines running and not in the water?

cheers

(its a 95 speedster by the way)

Wow that is kind of silly. He must be refering to the fact that when you lose thrust moveing at a faster speed that you lose steering when slowing down. :)

Probbly buying a new steering cable will be the fix but when you disconect it at the ends you will be able to see if the problem is some where else.

Remove cable, elevate one end, and spray plenty of pb blaster into the elevated part. Wait a day or so and try to free it before you buy a new one. Had the same problem with my forward/rev cable

Is the removal of the Cables a hard process?

it doesnt really describe it to well in the shop manual i have.

should i grease up the mechanism behind the steering wheel as well?

I ahve some marine grease to do it with but would something else be better initially?

cheers

There'ya go...darn thing just might be stuck, little wd-40/liquid wrench, just may free ur up...

There is some product called RUST REAPER, that I heard about on a sawmill forum, that is supposed to eat rust. I never tried it, but it might be worth looking into.

2 facts:

1.) Jet skis do not turn real well, (and some not at all), unless you are pressing the throttle. (There are some sort of exceptions to this, with some of the newer skis, with skid thingies, that make you turn without throttle)

2.) The mechanism that steers it SHOULD move freely, in, and out of the water.

If it does not... ya gotta fix it.

Probably a binding rusted steering cable... as others said. :agree:

Update

Hi everyone,.

Managed to free the starboard steering cable last night , but not the port .

Seems this port engine and side is the one to give me all the trouble. I tried the turn 1 /4 and nothing. but not sure if im doing it right. I Pulled that cable off the steering wheel and off the nozzles at the back and tried to turn it?

I have left over night and soaking in wd 40 to see what happens.

Woul di be best to undo the cable from the wheel and let it out straight and then let the wd do its work >

Ive also checked and removed the nozzles on the jets to make sure that they were not frozen. is marine grease best to put on the spaceers plus screws when they go back on ?
