It is part number 11.....it has almost caused 2 accidents for me...luckily I was only going at drifting speeds and was able to just kill the motor and jump out and grab the boat before it ran into other boats...basically what it does is keep the boat locked in the forward position and should release when you pull the lever back to natural or reverse.....has anybody had this issue? Can I just remove it instead of replacing it? I rather just remove it if not that important...

Someone else mentioned that same problem last week. Mine still works great but last I looked it was showing wear and I was thinking I could dress it back to reasonable shape using a file or something.

I guess the reason I want to try repairing it first is there might be a chance the reverse gate drops down accidentally and gets blown off, leaving me with no reverse?

Definitely do something though.

If the reverse gate drops down under speed that could be an issue. You would go from Boat Captain to U-Boat Captain. I would try and fix it first.

Talked to dealer and they have a new upgraded part due to people getting in accidents...the factory one is aluminum which is to soft and allows groves to be formed...upgrade is stainless steel and should eliminate this issue...$27.00 worth it....the pic below is what I have to cut through when boating so I use reverse a lot...docking also...hopefully it doesn't happen to anyone else...

Albysure, thanks for letting us know about the upgraded part. Since I have my boat apart that is cheap insurance and replacement.

Ok so I was told when I picked that part up that number 29 the hook should be replaced at the same time...both faulty and tie in with each other...just to let you guys know

I would check on yours by inspecting it...make sure it moves freely...you can put it in forward position and play with the clip and spring...

Good info, I like the idea of the stainless steel pawl. This one shouldn't have the problem of wearing such that it tends to snag in FWD position.
