so i didnt think about it but my exhuast is barly attached with one bolt lose
the stud snaped flush off with the pipe the pipe moves very easy im going to replace it but was going get this leaking problem out the way but then i was reading forums about exuast and said something about back pressure and the fact that water goes in to the exaust system for some reason. so is this why i have alot of water coming in my boat im about 95 % sure its not my drive shaft it looks like all new parts the other 5 is cause i cant see the two rings that are the same thats buy the carbon ring but i havent really looked for them . and i dont know how fast should water flow in the hull if theres no vts boot which is on order

the vts is a thru-hull right? the boot if not on there will allow it to take on water. The easiest way is to put it in the water with the seat off and look for where the water is coming in, or put some water inside the hull while it is on a trailer and see where it comes out.

if the VTS boot is leaking or missing, it still should not take on water as long as the large black oval vts cover with the 3 tabs is on properly with the seal behind it. I'm sure your vts module and/or motor are ruined but probably not your leaking problem.

The broken exhaust pipe bolts will leak water into the boat and into the motor, very common problem mostly with the 951 motor but others also do it, and can ruin a motor very quickly. But, more importantly, is that the reason the bolts and stud will break is because of excess vibration in the pipe caused from worn out rubber pipe mounts, NOT because the bolts just decided to break. Replace all your rubber mounts when you fix the broken stud/bolts or you will be doing it again very soon. You'll have to drill and EZ out the broken stud bolt, done it a hundred times and normally they come right out as long as there isn't too much corrosion. If really corroded, you'll end up drilling the entire thing out, tapping, and using a helicoil, not too difficult either and they work very well, make sure you use the stainless helicoils(I've seen some cheaper ones that weren't stainless, test by putting a magnet on it).

the vts cover was on perfact and yes vts was bad havent test it but dont have to it shot thanks for the vts advice makes me sure its not the main problem

yeah i dont think bolts dont decide to break but the dumba@@ that trade me this pcw snap 1 of the 3 bolts off and the stud looks like what you say cause the rubber mount is shot and its not snaped off flush with the exuast but instead its snaped at the manifold so that does make sence thanks for the info oh about how much water does come in at a time for the exuast

I've seen the bolts/stud break at all positions, from flush with the manifold to below the manifold to just below the head, all from the worn out rubber bushing mounts. There are 3 pipe rubber mounts, change all of them.

If the joint is loose enough, it will pump water into the boat just like you put hose in the hull. You also need to check compression to make sure the engine is still OK, also listen for piston slap(a ticking sound) which occurs when cold water from your bad joint goes into the motor and hits a hot piston and deforms the pistons a few thousandths, normally gets worse with time til the motor self destructs in one form or another.

thank you so much cause i was a about to go crazy thinking about it and not being able to find out. i would take it to a shop but i dont trust them if i dont know them and im from v.a. and now in g.a (and dont have my local shop here for tuff trouble shooting its a good thing i found this website ) cause wifes in the navy think you when i get the parts order and put on i will post

just a side note..... another leading cause for broken mounts is engine alignment!

if it is off, it will cause the same vibration destroying exhaust bolts.

think you it looks find and doesi nt shake wierd but i also dont know how to tell

the manifold bolts 8 of them do they snap of easy or depends on corrison i dont have much tools so i dont want to take it to the shop i have every thing i need to do it just would like to know what im getting in to
