I am looking for some basic stereo upgrades for my boat, system that is in there at present is poor, although it does seem aftermarket. I have read the stereo install threads from Sako and the like and they may as well be written in Manderin!!
Basically, I am looking for a new header unit that is Ipod ready, radio would be good and CD not really required but if it has one thats OK. I really dont want to concern myself with cutting holes or making holes bigger in the boat, so what size speakers are the standard ones and would simply upgrading those with 'better ones' (what 'W' is 'better'?) and having the new header unit be enough to give a marked improvement in sound? I guess I am looking for the biggest improvement for basically unplugging the existing system and plugging in the new one.
I really dont understand when an amp or kicker would be required, as I have no clue what they do, apart from make thigs louder! I dont need a "banging" boat, just some decent sounds for the family inside BUT with the option of possibly installing some tower speakers in the future.
I think my boat may have had some speakers on the tower in the past, as there was a wire coming from the hull in front left corner and into the old tower (mine is in the dealers as we speak getting the new tower as part of the safety recall) but I have a feeling that the amp/kicker may have been removed along with the speaker prior to me buying it. There is a panel that was installed on the kick plate in front of the fron passenger seat which I will remove when I get the boat back, as I have a feeling this is where the 'extra' electrics were hidden.
I know this is likely beneath some of the 'sound guru's' on here who I envy for their vast knowledge of this stuff but some simple advice would be most welcome.
