Well i would first like to say that because of this forum I have been able to troubleshoot my seadoo and after only one day of ownership I now can say that I can start one engine. Thank you guys for all your help.

My back story is I literally just bought a 1998 Seadoo Sportster 1800 that needs a complete overhaul. This morning when I woke up I tore out the inside and scrubbed it done and am preparing for new interior. Also, I was able to get the port side motor running.

I must say that I have many questions about my new boat and I am really hoping to find the answers here. I have always wanted a Jet boat and for the low price of only $900 I can now say that I am. I have worked on many boats (mostly outboard) over the years but never any like this. To be honest it is a little intimidating. I look forward to hearing from and sharing with all of you. Thank :willy_nilly:

This is the second time I posted this. The first I think was in the wrong forum. So sorry if you read this twice

OK... I'm confused.

The title says "Steering cable" but, in your post... you don't actually ask any questions. Did you forget to ask about something?

welcome to jet boating. 900.00 for the boat, with trailer to? man that`s cheap... Post up some pics...

Basically it`s a boat, with boat hardware, steering helm, steering cable, lighting etc etc. The twin 787`s are like having 2 jet ski`s together being tied into one by the electronics. otherwise it`s one giant jet ski. IMHO if this is your first jet/2 stroke boat, def proceed with caution.
These are very finicky, it could have salt water corrosion and lots of frozen bolts unless you got a good one in perfect condition.

what are your plans? Rave valves? rebuilding the jet pumps? compression on engines, oh there is much to do before you hit the water with confidence... Good Luck!:cheers:

Don't see the question but if you need new cables SBT sells them. Seadoo stopped them for the Sportster 1800 years ago. I have the same boat and I bought mine for $4400. The boat does have the dual 720's which are very easy to work on.

Well to be honest it is not in perfect condition. The guy I bought it from bought it in florida and brought it back to WV. He stated that he got it cheap because the motors were locked up. He was able to get them free and running but never did anything else. I have already replaced the steering calbe, choke calbes and a couple other minor things. I finally got it running and idling last night so I decided to drop it in and make sure it was going to pump water and not over heat. It worked beautifully for about five minutes and a couple figure eights then I lost a motor. I couldnt get it up to WOT and when I throttled down the port motor died and when restarted it idled high and then shut off. No clue what to do next. I am gonna replace the fuel and oil lines and clean the carb again. Any ideas on how to help. I will post pictures when I get it done I have the interior out and the decals half off so it looks like crap. But for 900 i think it was a steal the trailer alone is worth that.

that engine dying could be a number of things... from fuel baffle, fuel filters to fuel pump, pulse lines, fuel lines, clogged accelerator pump lines, if the engine runs away it could be a bad crank seal... if the engines were ever locked up, what was the cause? I would then remove the carbs and rotary valve cover and look into each port at the condition of the crank... if it`s rusty and discolored you have a time bomb on your hands...

since you bought the boat relatively cheap, you might consider going with SBT remans and then enjoy the boat for a few years instead of a day or a few outings...
Did you do a compression check on both engines?

what`s absolutely necc is a shop manual. you`ll need all the tightening torque specs, and all the adjustment specs for your particular boat.

well good luck with the project...
