Steering cable issues

Hi guys haven,t been on in a while my 2001 speedster is running pretty decent. Question the steering seemed to be non responsive a lot of left and right play. So I bought a new steering cable and happened to notice a lot of crunching noise coming out of the steering box. So I installed my new cable took it out and it seem to respond a lot better. But then tried to take a sharp left turn and she went limp so to speak with a lot more play. What do you guys think. Thanks as always this forum has helped me fix a lot of other issues for a fraction of the cost. Ed

Sounds like your steering box needs to come out and be inspected.
