Hello everyone.

After owning my challenger 2000 close to a year I have finally disconnected the "steering assist"!! I know this is a system that is supposed to be a safety feature, but I found it to be too aggressive, revving the engine too much.

I tried to adjust the cable so as to minimize the rev increase but even at the shortest cable length the motor revs too much (3 to 4 thousand revs with steering at mar turn).

Is this how this system supposed to behave? Is there some other adjustment that I am not aware of that will reduce the revs? Thanks.

The Low Speed Control should increase RPMS to 1800. There are two systems, one is the cable system and the other is the sensor system. I am assuming that you have the cable system. For the cable system there are three points you can look at, two of them are behind the steering wheel, under the driver's console, the other is where it connects to the throttle. On one point in the helm console and the point on the engine you want the cables to be at their longest, not the shortest length. The other point in the helm console adjusts the increase to equalize on both sides. Get a hold of the Sea Doo Manual Section 6 subsection 2 because with the steering system a picture is worth a thousand words and there is not set length it is all trial and error until you get the right setting. You can also test this on the trailer as long as you have a water hose hooked up to the engine.
