Hi,

My 95 speedster I am in the process of rebuilding is looking like it's going to need a full set of cables, the steering is siesed completely and the reverse is very stiff plus all the seals on the rear are perished.

Has anyone found a cheaper solution to the cable replacement as the cables are expensive not to mention cost of import tax and postage to the uk.

Also should the cables be flexible, I am currently trying to remove the steering cables but they feel very stiff and don't bend easy at all.

Many thanks

Andy

SBT makes replacement cables for everything, and they are the only ones I've found that make them for our boats. You will just need to fork out the money for the steering cable, but for the reverse cable you could just buy one cable and convert it to a single cable mechanism. That's what I did with mine. You can find the guide on how to do it here: http://seadoosportboats.com/topic/9-how-to-speedster-14-shifter-conversion/

This is the rod you need to connect the gates: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sea-Doo-Cha...-24-/190758890107?hash=item2c6a1daa7b&vxp=mtr
Not sure why it's $45, I got mine for $11. I'd offer him 15 and see what he comes back at. Highest I'd go is $20.

Agreed with new cables. I tried refurbing a few on my 95 and it was a completely wasted effort. The new ones make life so much easier.

As far as stiffness on the steering cables, yeah, they don't bend much. Even the replacement cables are going to be pretty stiff so be ready for that on the re-install! ;) But you might get lucky. Have you disconnected the cables from the helm to see if both are seized? Since the two run in tandem via the helm, if only one is seized, neither will move. if you disconnect them you can move them individually and maybe you'll get lucky and only one is bound.

You've probably already checked that, but I figured I'd ask. I bought two cables for my 95 only to find that I really only needed 1.

New is the only way to go. But you can get them from many places, not just seadoo. Just need the over-all length and correct ends.

Thanks for the advise

I like the sound of a single cable however I'm sure the 95 and 96 gates are different but I suppose I could make a joining bracket myself.

I may have also found a local cable manufacturer who may be able to make some for a reasonable price.

Nope. Engine distance between every twin engined 2 stroke is the same, and so is pump distance. Mine's from a 98 speedster but worked with my 97
