Starting out of the water

Good thing, tells you, B-4 docking in water that it fires up...BAD, don't run too long, bearings in pump housing are cooled down by the water from lake/river. No more than 5min. out of water

Agreed....

:agree: He's correct. Run the engine no longer than 5 minutes due to the shaft seal has no cooling supplied to it while on the trailer.

Good advice timmyboy....

I do agree with you but tell me one thing why even go threw the trouble to hook it up to a hose if you can only run it for 5 minutes. I would think it would be safe to run it for 3 minutes off of the hose but I could always be wrong. What do you think? I crank mine for 30 to 45 seconds tops off of the hose every time before I take boat any where just to make sure it will start and if there is any thing that I may need to do to it that takes longer it will have to wait tell I get to the lake.

30-45 sec. is one thing, 3min is another. Sure there is more specific way of putting this, but..
1. Theres no air, nor vent ribs built off motor to cool the S.O.B. down
2. Don't know the farenheit inside those cylinders, but bet its HOT
In comparison, if your water pump is to go out in your car/truck, you gonna continue to drive?
I dont even like my boat running more than a minute on hose, let alone 5min., even in salt water, dont see need to run that long to flush out.
Maybe bit anal, but those o-rings aren't that big, that seperate water from gas, so anyway to keep temp down, i'm for it.

I just wanted to add to this incase some one was to read it in the future. Do not run you engine with out the hose for more than one minute as you can cause damage to it. there is at least 1 ruber seal on the top end of your engine and you may also have ruber exhaust couplers that can not handle the heat. these engines idle at 3000 rpms out of the water and heat can build up fast. when I first got my boat I had a water injection problem with the exhaust and I was able to burn the exhaust coulpers in less than 5 minutes at full speed. {melted ruber}

Not Murdering Your Engine (while on hose) But Don't Make it a Habit

I just ran my SD RXP with hose to make sure it will run tomorrow on the lake with no problems, but it only ran for 25-35 sec. before I turned off water and engine. Remember on IC models, your coolant only cools engine, the hose keeps exhaust from being hot enough to melt your exhaust ducts.

I reworded my post just incase. from off the hose to without the hose. If you are going to run it for a short period as you described I would not bother with hooking up the hose as I beleive that is not enough time to hurt any thing

This site and members are full of good & helpful information

Thank you all ....
Anyone with the same 2007 Sea doo GTX 155Hp

I have 2 97 GSX's. The only time i will start it without a hose or in the water is to ensure it will turn over, and/or too see if the battery is dead. I run mine on the hose every year at least once. Since i recently fixed and planned a trip to the lake i ran it on the hose for around 7-8min. and i usually do every year. Im pretty sure it dosent harm anything, hasnt for 11 years on my seadoo. I wouldnt worry about it overheating if you have the hose on it, just dont get on it too hard if its not in the water.

Austin.
