Starting after stoping...how long to wait

I was reading through the operator's guide and it said that one should wait 5-10 minutes before starting the engines. Is this something that is normally done? I was raised on the lake and the boat that I rode on, the motor was always shut off when someone got up on the back and then started right back up when they were inside the boat.

I've never heard (or read) that before. Maybe after running it on the hose because the bearings and seals on the impeller jet pump are cooled from being in the water. When it is on the trailer it doesn't have that cooling effect so they will get hot after about 5 minutes.....that could be what you are reading.....??

Maybe to run the blower for the "required" time?

think thats what the OP is reading. Its to ventilate the engine bay od gas fumes, or you can just open hatch up, and idle from water for a 1/2 a minute. See alot of boats/big boats, do that.

My buddy (Sportser) told me to run the fan before starting, but not 5-10mins..does it really say that long? wow. We've put in ~40-50hours (half assed under guess I'd say) and each time we run it about 2-4mins, no issues.

I always just throw on my fan before I even start backing the boat into the water, then if we stop for a short while I just keep it on the whole time. Haven't blow up yet (fingers crossed).

I always worried about the fan draining the battery if I left it on.

PS - It is 5 min.

I guess they just aren't sure.

Edit: Sry, thought the Challenger 1800 was the same hull as the Speedster. Maybe they felt 5 minutes was better for the larger hull. Or maybe someone blew up at 4 minutes and sued them.

uh,I could be wrong but I believe that is just for cold starts when the boat has been sitting and may have accumulated fumes. or most importantly after refueling. I've never run the blower on my boat before hot starts nor have I ever heard of or seen anyone do it

I`ll run the blower for a few minutes and also open the hatch afterwards, then fire up the engines while the boat is still on the trailer prior to launching. backing the boat down the ramp and tying up. hatch open blower back on for a few, shut blower off then the engines fire right up, warm and pull away from dock... maybe overkill. I have a mondo DieHard PM2 AGM 850CCA battery and I`m sure it can handle the load.

I`m just in the habit of looking for any leaks prior to riding...
