Just about to order a new starter for my 96 GTX 800, and I noticed for a bit more cash I can get a hi torque starter.

Is it worth the extra as my motor is standard, or will it last longer and turn better, or just suck the juice out of the battery?

ebay seller "14rebuilders" has them.

Cheers

High performance!....

Marc, that's a good question. I hope many haven't elected to buy this high torque starter.
The high torque starter is mostly for racers "mods" who have built up the performance of their craft by changing the bore and stroke of the motor. When this is done, the extra compression and torque on the fly wheel is why you'd need that high torque starter. It won't hurt if you get it but you surely don't need it.

I have read some where that the starter on this engine needs to be oem as engine has more compression and that after market starters have caused a lot of problems. I am not positive that this is the engine they were having the problem with starters. I got this info from a very respected pwc mechanic.
