Picked this ski up free with a trailer, I plan to fix and sell but here is the issue.....I get 2 beeps, motor turns by hand , starter spins but nothing moves. The p.o. said he had it out last, it idled and he got up to speed for about 1 min when it bogged down and shut off. He got a 12v light and a long beep. He restarted it and it would only idle to shore. It then died again and wouldn't start at all. Here is a video, any ideas? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k58VaUuXkFk

Good chance the Bendix has a very small rust ring on it or, the battery voltage is to low to get the starter up to speed so the Bendix gets thrown out.

Starter was under water? Water is supposed to stay outside the boat/pwc. Sorry, just being a smartass.

You did not state which ski you are dealing with.

LOL, got the water free with purchase, its not a lot but hate working with water in the hull. Its a 99 GTX Limited. I have a feeling I will have to remove the pipe to try and get to the mag cover. If the bendix is bad, whats the best way to get the flywheel out?

iv got an extra bendix from my build you can have it just pay shipping it wasn't bad to get out after exhaust and front mount were out of the way

Did the flywheel have to come off? I heard its a PITA getting it back on ( in the ski that is). I really dont want to pull the motor.

I'll probably take you up on that, hope to pull starter today and know more soon.

Yea have to pull flywheel get the puller of eBay it's really pretty easy I had my stator and front off my gsx ltd several times before I figured I had bad crank bearings. Pull exhaust then oil pump remove front mount completely put small piece of wood under front the. Pull cover flywheel is pretty easy with puller then plastic retainer bendix pulls right out flywheel is keyed

Well things went from bad to worse. Looks like the flywheel sheered the key. I was able to remove the flywheel bolt by hand and also the flywheel. So much for my great buy :(

The woodruff key is for aligning the fw & crank, Torqueing the nut properly on the tapered shaft is what keeps it in position on the shaft.

Yepp, my guess is the previous owner had no clue on what to do but after looking at it again, it looks like he had to woodruff keys in there. So my guess is it was never on all they way when he installed it.
