my father-in-law has a 1997 sea doo spx and last year he had to have a wiring harness and some trim tab work done on it and later on in the summer it wouldn't start without a jumpbox on it. he did this for awhile and then on vacation he went to jump it off and the positive fell over on a metal box next to the battery and sparked a bit and then it wouldn't start for anything, could this just be the starter solenoid or do you think that it burnt up the electrical box or something. we checked all of the fuses that we could find in it to see if it jsut blew a fuse but they were all good, if it is the starter solenoid, how hard are they to change with not ever working on a ski before. thanks ryan

i have been reading some posts on here and is the electrical box that i am talking about the MPEM and isf so what all years of ske's will this box work on, thanks ryan

Fuses

Fuses my man fuses. First step in troubleshooting is replacing the cheapest parts you can replace, first. There should be some fuses in there, probably look like the ones in your car. Little two prong blue or red fuses. Probably a 5 and 15 amp fuse. Check those first. Also just because it looks good doesnt mean there isnt a break in them.

There is a couple ways to look at this, but yes the main box your talking about is the MPEM . And there is a good chance that could have went bad, from what I have read on here. The best thing to do is pull down the manual from here and trace out the electrical. It will tell you where all that stuff is on your ski .. I use the manuals here for my 2000 and 2001 gti and without them I would be totally lost. They are filled with troubleshooting steps and great diagrams of where things are like a fuse if there is one.
