hey all! i have a 96 xp just got a new battery for it the ones you fill yourself and charge. had my ski running in the morning started right up. now, i had bought a new fuel gauge for it that was the wrong one. didnt put it in but had the guages unhooked. hooked them back up and now it does nuthing. i bought a new battery but still. it doesnt beep, turn over or anything. its almost as if there is no battery. i am totally confused as i dont know much about these. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks-Tim

sounds like you may have blown a few in the brain. which will cause the ski to do nothing. check for blown fuses.

I would check the wire connections to the battery and the - Ground going to the engine also, by the starter.

Be sure the power and ground from the battery is good at the connections. Check all your fuses as it sounds like you might have blown one when you connected your guages back up.

still no starting.

well, i checked all fuses they are all good unless there is more out of the box that i dont know about. also, i can crank the ski over by hitting the solenoid with a screw driver, but it doesnt start. so what would that tell me? i called a dealer they said to try testing for power wich it has, tried cleaning the safety switch, but still notjing. i am really stuck here, should i replace the safety switch and lanyard? or the solenoid? i really dont know what else to check, my grounds and power are good to. hey, and thanks karl for dealing with all of us, im sure everyone else and myself appreciate it.

When you jumped the solenoid is their spark? Check the spark at the plugs with the safety lanyard attached as if you were starting it. If it has spark...than it must be the solenoid. If no spark it could be the start switch. Here are some tests to check.
Check the continuity of the Safety Switch Lanyard. It is normally "open". The color codes of the 2 wires are Black and Black/Yellow. These feed back into the electrical module box. The Start /Stop switch is normally "open". The color codes of the 2 wires are Black, that goes direct to ground, (to stop the engine), and the Yellow/Red that goes to the electrical module box. Check the continuity of this switch too.
Keep us posted on your progress.
