Stainless Steel Wear Ring in 04 S200 Plastic Pump?

I have heard that a stainless steel wear ring in a plastic pump will stop it from getting out of round when you tighten down the bolts. It would be cheaper than converting to metal pump. Anyone try this or have any thoughts. The out of round plastic pump is a real problem for this boat.
