Stainless Impeller or stock?

I'm a new SeaDoo owner ( 2007 RXP 215 s/c ) but want to learn to replace out pump parts as needed on my own as opposed to taking to the dealer. I need to replace my impeller. My question is since I'll have the pump out, should I throw in a stainless impleller or just go with another stock one? Also, anything else I should replace while I'm at it? The impeller is chipped from a stone but I don't see any other damage.

Also, if you have a link to a good "how to" on this subject, I'd appreciate it. I have the shop manual but would appreciate advice from you who have "been there, done that".

Thanks!

Didn't know that -thanks

Thanks Chester. I didn't know it was stainless because it's not shiny but I'm leary of having it repaired. I'd just rather replace it. I drive hundreds of miles to the lake/river where we ride and want to just have replacement parts with me to fix it on site. That said, do you have any other advice as to the process of replacing it? That's what I'm really looking for is something more than the manual offers from someone who's done it on a regular basis. For instance, should I always replace "x, y and z" whenever I'm replacing the impeller? Is there a repair kit someone would recommend? Info like that...

Thanks again

Is that all I need?

Wear ring and new impeller? Or are there kits with the tools I'll need. Just need more info if you can.

Thanks.

Never heard of a kit. The impeller an wear ring are seperate items and will have to be bought like that. If you have a ding'd up impeller you probably have a nicked up wear ring also. It would be wise to replace the ring if you are replacing the impeller because of damage.

Thank you and one more question

Thanks for the info - now I'm getting somewhere. One last question: Do I need to buy any special tools ( impeller removal tool ) or is this just marketing to get me to buy stuff I don't need?

Thanks again and I really appreciate the info.

to me replacing a impeller would be good to replace the wear ring at the same time, for me this would be hand and hand like changing rotors should replace the pads. It is something you have to do? no....is it something that would be a good idea...yes.

your gonna need the impeller removal tool and access to a bench vise to change those parts bud.

and breaker bar and should use some red loctite for assembly. Should let the loctite sit for 24 hours before putting back in the water. Run a search on wear ring removeal and you can see how that is done. I think the most comon way is to cut it with a saw and then peal it out. Putting new one in i hear freezing it and then slipping it in is best way. You can use a block of wood and hammer to sit it all the down flush.

Good luck !

red lock tight? I would think blue would do so that you could get it off again if need be...I do not use red unless it will not have to be removed for a long time.

Was told to use red I think by Karl, double check on that though. Always used red and never had one come loose. Never had one not come off when wanted with breaker either.
