Spring Break coming up...where's a good fresh-water ski spot in Texas?

Looking for someplace that isn't too crowded, has beach access, clean water, no gators or snakes, and not a bunch of rules. Would really like to take my dog and camp out.

In other words, I'm looking for "Heaven in Texas":D

Any beach city in Florida. Would stay away from Daytona and Panama City. Clearwater would be a good place.

I agree too!

But need to stay in Texas, preferably in the south and east quarter of the state.

Looking at maybe Lake Somerville. Used to ski there with out jet boat when I was a kid. it was 30 years ago, but it was clean, no crowds, and they let us bring our dog...

I will probably be disappointed if I go now with all the new rules and crowds.

Check out the" chamber of commerence "for the condition of the lake and an update on it's rules and regulations.

That's what I did befor I moved to Florida. Every town has one, and will have tons of info to check out.

Medina lake

Medina lake is a great place to jet ski. Water is great and if you put in close to the Mouth of the river you will have wide open calm water to ride on.

Cool!

Thanks for the input! I happen to have an aunt and uncle that live in Boerne, about 30 minutes north of Medina. So we could easily stay a weekend!

I used to live in Portland...how is the skiing down there and in the Corpus area?

Medina lake

The water skiing here is ok but I would not rate it very high. The main problem is that Lake Corpus Christi is very dirty and you are pumping dirt in and out of your rig. Tends to be very windy in corpus as well. One thing you mite check is the water level in Medina lake. It had dropped quite a bit a couple of years ago but I believe that I heard it may be back up due to the monsoon rains last spring.

That is kinda the same problem we have up here. The water is brackish and muddy, not to mention all the scary critters in the water. I will brave them, but the wife will have nothing to do with it. She wants clear and clean water in a place she "thinks" has no snakes or gators (or sharks, stingrays, wasps, terrorists, red heads with freckles, etc.).

I joke, she is not THAT bad, and she is a freckled redhead....:reddevil:

We had good luck last week at Somerville, and she was willing to try to get on the jetski, but I told her no for now. The water was too cold and I didn't want her to fall off and have that shock of cold water. When it warms up a bit, I will let her get on it so when she falls, it isn't so scary and cold, and she might try it again.
