I'm new on here...just bought a 2003 Sportster with 115 hrs on it, garage kept, maintained, I have receipts of all maintenance.
We took it out 3 times with no issues at all, maybe an hour each time....the weather's been bad.
Yesterday we took it out, ran the kids to the island...3 miles out, and went back for another couple when a huge boat cut us off and we hit the wake pretty hard.
The check engine light came on...not blinking...steady.
We pulled out of the way and shut it down, did not turn battery off at that time.
Waited a couple minutes, restarted, check engine light
still on and went into limp mode.
Got back to the dock, checked it out, shut off battery, waited, restarted, check engine light still on but wasn't in limp mode but wouldnt go over 5,000 rpm.
Tried to get back to retrieve the kids at the island, babying it, battery light started flashing, then it died.
Now won't.restart.
We got towed in, put new battery in...other one was 3 yrs old anyway...replaced a fuse...don't know which one but it was a 10 amp.
Don't know what.to try now....any suggestions?

Yes, 4 tec
And yes, beeped twice but nothing happens when we push start button.
However, when we jumped the solenoid it tried but didn't start..but we may be out of gas.

Sounds like you need to hook it to a computer to read the codes. Check your battery connection, I have had random weird issues when mine was loose. And check all the fuses including under the steering counsel and in the engine bay.

Yeah, figured it would have to be hooked.to a computer anyway to get it.out of limp mode.
Connections are good. Checked fuses in back, not under dash yet. Will be checking.that tomorrow.
I've read a lot about the oil sensor giving.trouble also so gonna check that also.
Have to wait til Tuesday to have it read from the bike dealer I bought it from. They deal in jet skis but got this on consignment...so they should be able to read it.
There was one battery terminal that was yucky...will replace that tomorrow also.

I think limp mode resets on each start. Mine would go into limp mode when I had too much oil in it until it was warm. I would just pull the key and restart.

Oh, ok.
I am going by my bike...I have the brp can am spyder...it has to be reset by computer if it goes into limp mode, just assumed it was the same. I'm thinking when he hit hard after the huge wake it jarred something loose. An old guy owned this for 11 yrs...probably never hit a wake over a foot high!!!
We will replace the terminal, check the fuses under the dash and put some new gas in it and see what happens.
