My 05 Sportster 150 speedometer works great, up to 20mph exactly. At 20mph and faster the needle remains at 20mph. Anyone experience this problem and know what the fix is? Id rather not chase my tail pulling things apart that isn't necessary. Speed sensor or gauge?
Thanks!

There is a plastic wheel on the stern below the water line that spins to tell you how fast your going but they are not accurate. I use a Lowrance gps to accurately give me infor on my mph. Or you can download a gps cell phone app to give you mph.

Probably the sensor. You can spin it outta water and see if it reads higher. May need adjustment.

When I spin it, while the boat is on the trailer, the speedo stops immediately at 20mph the same as when I am running it on the water.
How do you adjust it?

Sounds like the sensor needs to be replaced. Or your gauge itself is faulty. Not sure how to diagnose between the two. I'm sure a candoo scanner could let you know if the sensor is showing higher and the gauge itself is the issue. There are aftermarket gauges that use a GPS chip for the speed and they will fit in that space. Probably cheaper than replacing the stock speedo and/or the paddle sensor.

I looked at mine and they look a little cheezy. I'd say lube the wheel, but how long is that really gonna last......a few minutes? One thing maybe you could do is, while it's out of the water, spray some lube on it and put an air hose to spin the wheel. I'd be careful because if you hit it with a good blast of air it'll spin like a mofo!! but then maybe your speedo might say you're doing 500mph....LOL!!

Yep, did all that. First thing I tried was lubung that wheel. Im going to switch the sensor and wheel out and if that doesnt fix it then Im going with the GPS version

The speedo can be repaired at Faria. The cost is $100 plus shipping. I just had my tach done and it looks new.
I also put in a Faria GPS speedo that has the receiver in the gauge. Paid $90 no tax free shipping from Cabelas. Fits into the same hole.

What did you to "re-do" your tach? and do you have a pic of the new Faria speedo installed? How much work is it to install?

Here is a pic of the repaired tach and the new GPS speedo.
The speedo is a direct fit and uses three wires. 12v from the ignition, ground and 12v from the battery. The 12v ignition already exist with the ground all I added was the 12v from the battery so the GPS turns on fast and remembers the signal.

Ok, gotcha! My cluster is all integrated on the Speedster 150. That puppy is much bigger than I thought. What ride do you have?
