I purchased a 98 sportster 1800 boat this past week. It ran fine when i put it in the lake but the right engine doesnt seem to pull as hard as the left engine. also engine sounds a little different.

Also the throttle controls are kinda loose. Im used to pushing them forward and them staying where I left them when I take my hand off, and these go back down to idle. Is this a characteristic fo this boat or do I need to have something addressed?
Top speed was about 47 mph, is this about right?

The throttle levers need tightened. Pull the trim plate off and then the bolts underneath it. The whole mechanism will pull up. Tighten the screw on the side of the lever base. That usually fixes it. As far as performance, i would start with new spark plugs.

How did you measure this top speed?

are both engines reaching max RPM of 7000? How do the pumps look?

There is a screw within the levers that will increase the tension on the throttle levers so they don't back out.

To take the FNR assembly off my 99 Sportster 1800 the boat I had to drill out the existing bolts. they did NOT budge.

I measured the top speed on the speedometer. The tach is inop at this time .it is being fixed this week so I can check rpm's then. Thanks for the tip, was not aware of what rpm's it should turn.
