splitting cases??

Hey guys, I'm going to be splitting my cases to clean them out, when I took the top end off, some grime fell into the crank and I am going to pop the bottom case half off to clean it all out an make sure everything is OK in there. I'm doing this to a 787 and a 951.

My question is do I need to remove the pto, and flyheel, or will it split and lift out with them still attached? I dont need to remove them and wont if it will come out with them intact. In some motors, I know there's bolts and stuff under the flywheel or pto. I dont think there is in these, just wanted to check with someone who has done it a few times.

You will need to remove them, you will also need to replace the crank seals once you break the cases apart.

Good point, I wasn't thinking about the seals not being able to come off. I got the pto off the 787, but it's on the 951 pretty tight. Might have to heat it.

It's just a tapered fit on the 951, not threaded. Heat it up and slap it off there.

Or use the correct puller like a civilized wrencher.

And I'm assuming unbolted the drive shaft yoke and removed the crank shaft nut.

So I want to clean up the crank, I'm so glad I decided to pull it apart, I knew some trash fell in there, but it was ungodly what I found, even after flushing it out with diesel prior to splitting it. The lubrication holes between the main bearings have a pile of "mud" in there on both sides and there was nasty debris all over.

The 951 motor was an SBT motor, so it looks like the crank is not rebuildable, as it is welded together.
I wasn't planning on having the crank rebuilt, the rod bearings are tight and the mains are OK, but I have got to get the trash out of them.

Any recommendations on what to use so that I dont ruin the middle seals. I'm not spraying them with brake clean or carb clean as I know it will destroy the seals.
