Speedster Wear Ring/Impeller to Tight?

Hello
Hi
I just ordered and received two derlin wear rings.
I had new Solas SD-SC-A & B impellers. After I spent some serious time changing the wear rings I installed the impellers. They are VERY TIGHT! I could only gently push them straight down, I couldn't turn them with the wrench on the impeller tool. I had the shaft in a vice and turned the pump clock wise and that sucked the impellers down into the wear ring. I can't turn them at all however now. Is this normal? Is something wrong? I don't want to go through this all again.......thank you!

Something is definitely wrong, some minor scraping is normal but the impellers should turn fairly free especially using the impeller tool. Where did you buy the wear rings? What year speedster do you have?

There was some white oxidization but I sanded and cleaned them real good before installing the wear rings.
I bought them from OSD and they have been good on trying to help troubleshoot the problem. I think removing the impellers and sanding the inside of the ring until they turn freely is my best option at this point?
It is a 1995 Speedster.

I have just bought some identical impellers for my 95 speedster too although I have never had the boat in the water so would be interested in your views on the new impellers.

Hope you get your wear rings sorted out... at least when it's done you will have a perfect wear ring gap :-)

I did hear somewhere that some rings are made too tight so the impellers cut them for a perfect fit but yours sound too tight!
