What would cause the reverse gates to hit the nozzles? As in the pictures there will not go down as they hit immediately.

I hate to have you do it but pull the stuff back off and post some pics. I want to see what you have and compare it to mine. Take some other pics before you dismount everything too. Like how the support mounts are bolted to the pumps etc.... #11 specfically

Was a project boat. All parts came in boxes so I don't know if they're original. As for pictures I can snap some, I'll snap some pictures later, but as of now I only have the bottom bolts holding it in as the gates are in the way of the top bolts because of hitting the nozzle. Even on the bench though the venturi bracket and reverse brackets butted up to each other it still hit the nozzle. This was one piece that actually came assembled as in the gates were connected to the brackets and tie together bars installed. Is there something on the gate mounting that would have it sitting too forward?

That looks like a 155 steering nozzle, aren't those 140mm pumps on the Speedster? Pn#'s 204120149 RH and 204120125 LH nozzles show the vertical center divider.

On Edit:

You're comparing two different hull styles, not even close. You can't really go 100% by the pics either. The gate support shows it being flat where it mounts to the exit nozzle, but in fact it has 4 round bosses that physically touch the exit nozzle mounting points. Doo will carry over similar pics from earlier models.

Those are the correct nozzles. This is why I want pics.

Hers my 99, which is the same as his.

Right, which is why I referenced the PN's from SD's current Fiche for his boat year and model. I can't find a 140mm boat nozzle that doesn't have the vertical center divided in the fiche drawing.

I was more or less asking if that's really the case or if the drawings are wrong. SD show's something entirely different.

Man it's just nice to see pics of the real deal, obviously after seeing yours the current fiche is pure sorcery!

EDITED.

Jnz,

You can get them in. I never disassemble everything. Short 13mm socket and a couple of extensions and your set, do the tops first 80% of the way there then do the bottoms. Also do one on each side. Don't hook up the cable and open the buckets all the way. You'll look like a one arm paper hanger and use your knees to help support the reverse buckets. Or get a helper, my helpers make me wait so I don't ask for help.

My boat is unmolested, I'm the original owner

I remembered you mentioning that once, and seeing your nozzle pics I was like really SD? We literally ran the shop for decades and lived and died by referencing old school micro-fiche on the viewer and later on pc terminals to ID parts and assembly orders for most repairs.

Manuals were mostly written for referencing torque specs and wiring diagrams more or less. Duly noted now about SD's online fiche drawings, that sort of sucks.

LOL, yeah the fiche can be quirky. Just remember, don't believe every thing you read or see--especially on the interwebs. A part # is KING over a pic. It the part# matches it SHOULD be right.

Yeah it was work to get them up there on my own to begin with. I will head out there in a bit and pull it off and try putting it back on fully and take pics of the outcome.

Alright just went out and took it apart and put it back together as you mentioned. I unhooked the cable and was able to swing the nozzles to the right in the groove of the gate which allowed me to get at the top bolts. However I it didn't change much just that I was able to get the bolts in. One thing I noticed right from the start is the bolts are not seating fully and they leave possibly an 1/8 gap between bottoming out so everything has some wobble room.

I don't know how much threads come out the back, but as its sits now not fully seated this is what it looks like.

Any ideas? Or anything look off from the pictures? Should it be this much of a puzzle? I also can't figure out why the bolts are tight and feel like their bottoming out, but still have 1/8" to go before fully in? I verified they are the m8x90 the manual calls for.

They're bottoming out. There should be a spacer between the gate mount and the exit nozzle. I'm heading to the river now with the skis, I'll get you a pic later. I didn't think the spacers were separate though. I'm not 100% sure though, I swear mine has spacers.

Back from the river, 8 gallons didn't get me very far, LOL.

Look at the back of my gate support, you can see the round standoffs against the exit nozzle. You need those, they're molded to the gate support, somewhere someone swapped your gate supports, unless in 98 they're separate but the fiche had the same part number. They standoff .726", just under 3/4".

It's all making sense now in one of my very first posts on the boat I was doing inventory on what parts I had and what parts I needed. I found a handful of round nylon spacers and no one could pinpoint a location for them. I bet they were used in between the bracket. I can't see why the po would have had to replace the supports, especially given the condition everything else was in. It looked like he ran it to dead and pulled everything apart and said forget it and lost half the parts. I'm going to try the nylon pieces out and see if that in fact fixes the issue.

Thanks for the consecutive help. You seem to be getting me through all my speed bumps in this project. I had intentions of getting the skis out today too, but just a bit too chilly here at 62.

I remember that, go find them and measure them. I guess in 98 they found that problem and used individual spacers.

I'm glad I have a complete boat I can reference!

Just an update on this. That was the home for the spacers. All in now and just needs adjustment on the cable so that the latch catches.
