Trying to remove the reverse cable on a 98 speedster. Everything is loose up front the back I got the big nut off inside the hull. Question now is what else needs to happen to get it out. Does the plastic nut piece have to come off on the pump support?

It has to go out the back now. then the black plastic pieces will separate, then the stainless ring and seal. If the cable is junk you might have to cut it and beat it out of there. I just went through that with my steering cable on my XP resto. The carefully clean the hole up with the appropriate drill bit. I greased the threads real good to hope that if I ever need to pull it I can easily. Order a new seal for it too, or chance using the old one.

Dang your fast. So I push the cable out towards the rear of the boat and that nut should split ?

Lol, just happened to be on the computer doing a ups red shipment

Lol, got it out, but that nut just isn't falling apart. If I pry it will it break ?

Definitely, I am building this boat from boxes of parts which the po took everything apart and didn't want it anymore. I know the value of a good picture and amazing help on this site.

Pics are my favorite! Easiest way to help the next guy out.

The seal suggested to be replaced, do you happen to have a part number? In the diagram on either side of the split nut, it lists the rubber washer on the inside or large boot on the other side. Is the large boot as they call it what we're referring to as the seal? Part #24?

Yes sir.

New cable in with nut from the inside, then the rubber washer (#22) from the outside, then the two black halves clip into the groove on the cable housing, then the stainless ring holds them together and clipped into the groove. Then tighten the nut from inside and the black plastic draws into the rubber washer against the hull cinches around the housing and forms into the hole a tiny bit. So simple, yet you would think you need something so complex!

#24 will seal the the cable to the black plastic on the front side. I'd have to check my Speedster.

Got the new cable and seal installed today. Is there any detailed way on how the cables are adjusted. I removed the entire shifter when taking the cable out so now I'm dealing with throttle cables also. The reverse from what I've gathered in the manual as long as it latches should be good. The throttle cables not to sure on the adjustment up front. Also having never driven this boat prior if you put both throttles to mid throttle should they stay there are come back when you let them go. I got on that stays put and one that slowly glides back.

The procedures are detailed in the manual. As for throttle drift, no. You can set the friction on the control handle. When ever I work on one I usually only remove one of the nuts on the cable barrel so I'm pretty darn close on reassembly.

Did your gate cable snap at the end of the threads?

Got it taken care of. The po must have somehow bent it at a full 90 degrees where it connects to the gate. I tried to straighten it, but didn't work out.

On another note. What do these go to. Was giving it a wash today and one of the screws is just sitting there.
