Speedster Issues

I have a few separate posts recently, this one starting the new issues. I just finished rebuilding the carbs, all have 38 pop off and pass leak test. Engines both test at 150psi and dual output fuel pumps have been fitted to each motor with each carb getting its own output from the pump. On to the first water test tonight, both engines seem to take a good amount of time to start, full choke and the right engine seems to only start if you feather the throttle while starting both out and in water. In the water once finally started the engines idle fine, but the left motor seems to only want to go 3500rpm while out idling I played with giving short burst and it will go to about 5000rpm, but then a backfire like sound comes and the idle go back down, also this same motor if you do not finesse it to 3500 and just give it, it wants to die, unless you back off the throttle.

Recap:

Hard/long crank starts both motors, 4 times of choke and 5-10seconds holds on the starter. Left motor needs a little throttle to finally start.

Left motor dies when full throttle from idle.

Left motor will get up to 3500 when finessed and if short bursts are given 5000 and then a light backfire/air puff sound comes.

And here I thought I was making progress with this.

Thanks for the help on advance.

Update on this and now maybe someone can offer some advice. I can take away 3/4 of the problems above now. I swapped the carbs from the good engine to the other and no difference. I then swapped fuel pumps even though they are brand new and the filter is now full and the issues of dieing and hard starts are gone. However the engine will still only go to 3500 and just stay there, but does not die anymore. Any advice on new things to check?

Have you checked your neutral safety switch to see if it is sticking? If the MPEM detects the boat in the neutral position it rev limits to about 3500

I thought about that, but wouldn't the second motor also only go to 3500 also. Only one of the motors is limited the other is fine.

Read somewhere it could be the rectifier. Pulled that off the good motor and went back down to the lake quick and still 3500
