Speedster 200 - Engine Compartment Water Leak

My 2004 Speedster has developed a leak around the intake grate cable (at least that's all I can guess it is) that goes through the hull. It seems to be a cylindrical fitting that it is mounted in to that has unsealed itself with the hull. If I push it in firmly, the leak goes away, but once I get moving, it unseats itself and the engine compartment fills with water.

This is my first boat, so I'm not terribly marine inclined...what should I use to secure this fitting? I was thinking some sort of RTV or silicone sealant, but I'm not sure that will hold the part in place since it's not really meant to be an adhesive. Unless there is special adhesive+sealant that I'm not aware of. Epoxy? Is there a specific type to use since it's mounted directly to the fiberglass?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would loosen the fitting around the cable, clean everything very well… apply some RTV, and reassemble. That should take care of a small leak. Don’t use epoxy unless you have broken fiberglass… then, remove everything, fix the glass, and reinstall the cable with RTV.

Good luck

if you do use any caulking or adhesive use 3M's 5200 Marine adhesive/sealant in the blue tube. It's great stuff and I used it when i had to drill a hole thru the hull for a depth finder transducer.

It's not leaking around the cable itself, rather the around the entire fitting where the cable goes through. I don't know a good way to explain it. I went ahead and re installed the fitting with silicone adhesive. I couldn't find 3M 4200 or 5200 so I just got permatex's silicone adhesive...hope it holds up.

worked?

I am having the same issue with my 2004 Speedster, in the exact same spot.

I noticed it yesterday as my boat almost sank in the marina- I pushed the fitting back into place and the leak stopped.

Did the silicone adhesive work for you? I am going to try and fix it today or tomororw so I would love to know the outcome.

It worked great...it has been installed this way for a few years now with no issue. Make sure you dry the area completely before applying the adhesive.
