Hey Guys,

Not even sure If I should attempt this, but I'm thinking of building some sort of stand for my 2008 Speedster 150. Weird situation....when its on the trailer it simply takes up too much room in my garage during the winter. If I had it off the trailer and on some sort of stand with dolly wheels it would make my life a lot easier and save me $$ on storage.

The wife is adamant that she get access to the garage this year for her car...

Any ideas, or is this idea silly?

not really. how much does your speedster weigh? i'm going to assume its somewhere between 2000-3750 lbs. meaning its going to be pricey to make. i would build it out of wood with a double 2x12 outter band and triple 2x12 v's to hold the hull. the you havt to find caster wheels to hold the weight. tomorrow sometime i'll draw you a picture in pait and show you what i mean.

Speedsters weigh 630 kgs dry. I figure you have three options:

1. upgrade trailer to one with a folding draw bar (swing away), this would save you just under 1m in overall length - you could also wind the winch and pull the boat higher up the trailer to get you another 10cm or so.

2. If you were to fabricate something - you could explore using the roller kits available for boat jetties. I've seen these advertised for around $3-400 though you would need to mount the roller kits to a structure to get the boat off the ground. Could end up costing around $600

3. Build a fixed stand out of steel / wood that utilises carpeted bunks instead of rollers. If you sprayed the carpet with liquid rollers you might be able to slide the boat into place. This might only cost a couple of hundred bucks if you DIY.

Are you trying to make room for the car AND boat but the trailer is too big for both.Obviously you don't want to leave the boat on your driveway during the winter.Do you have room side move the boat sideways inside the garage?

Put a swing away tongue on the trailer. With the front of the trailer swung away, it takes up the same space it would on a stand.

Did you ever build a stand? I'm thinking of building some dollys

I bought these at Harbor Freight. Jack up each wheel, slide them under. Now I can tuck my boat into any tight corner of the garage.
