How often should this oil be changed... Do u use a vacuum pump to get it out.. How much does it take.???

Ruger..

Some of you 4-tec guys correct me if I'm wrong. I don't believe a 4-tec boat or ski uses oil, pretty sure they use grease, and I don't think it requires regular service.

BTW welcome to the SeaDoo forum......

They are grease BUT many change over to oil since the grease just gets pushed around where the oil actually gets into the bearings. I changed over to oil in the pump.

Don't mean to hijack this thread... but I am interested in how you switched from grease to oil. Did you need to tap a fill hole and screw into the cone to drain and fill like the older 2-strokes? What type of oil did you use, guessing the same as what the 2-strokes called for?

I have been curious about this for some time but never cam across a thread that describes this in detail. I like the idea and would think that it would lubricate the bearings better. Every time I have taken off my pump cone the grease seems like it's packed all around the cone but not in the bearings. Thanks!

When I bought my 08 150 speedster it was already like that... Don't know what they did.. Just cant find a way to drain it..

Exactly the grease gets pushed away.........All you do is remove the 3 screws that hold the cone on and pop the cone off, wipe all the grease out and hold the cone in your hand with the opening facing up. Pour in exactly 2.5 oz of gear oil and then in one fast motion push it back onto the pump. As long as you do it fast and get the first o ring to make even contact with the pump it wont spill. Then just push it on all the way and put the screws back in. Or you can remove the pump from the ski or boat and holding the cone with oil push it up into the pump while it hangs off the edge of your work bench. I used marine gear oil from amsoil http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/gear-lube/universal-synthetic-marine-gear-lube/?code=AGMTB-EA or you can use Royal Purple or I guess the seadoo brand but that stuff smells!!

Gotcha, so no modification needed. I will definitely consider doing this at the end of the year, plan to pull the pump and give it a once over. You are right about that seadoo oil, I have heard that stuff is pretty rancid!

Thanks for the info man I appreciate it!
