Hi saw a 155hp speedster 2008 on the market, I was erring towards the 255hp version though, but this one is 35% cheaper. Is the 155 hp version any good for towing a skier/wake boarder or is it too marginal. Also really, how much less fuel are they likely to chew. I like the idea of no supercharger too.
cheers

This question gets asked constently... so a little searching will turn up some more info.

BUT... every one is different, and I personally feel that Yes... it's plenty of power to have fun with. The boat will still get into the upper 40's, and it will have no issue pulling a wake boarder. Others may disagree, and say it's marginal for a wake board... but it doesn't make much of a wake, so you can't compare it to a competition boat anyway.

My thing is... not having the supercharger, and the expense of it's maintenance, out weighs the extra HP.

Good luck

In my opinion, you can never have TOO Much power....lol But I also agree the added cost of the supercharger is a major downside.

Horse Power and speed

I have read many claims as to how fast a Speedster will go and don't believe some of them.

I own a 2007 Sea Doo Speedster 155 NA. I chose the non supercharded version for many reasons. Washers, re-build kits, re-calls on washers and all I wanted was a good reliable jet boat that I could have fun in and maintain myself.

My Speedster will usually run 46 - 49 mph. One time I did see it flash 50 and I carry a lot of stuff in my boat. GPS is about the same. My boat runs fast enough for me at 7,300 rpm's and I've ridden in a 255 HP version and I don't need that much speed or noise. 8,000 rpm's is going to sound a lot different and that extra 700 rpm's will eat more gas and we all know more rpm's will cause extra wear and heat on the motor. I can pull 2 adult skiers out of the water with no problem. The extra 10 mph doesn't bother me one bit. There have been times when I hit waves wide open and the boat almost took a roll. I was glad I was only running hi 40's. You do know they put the same 255 hp in a jet ski that doesn't weigh 1,500 lbs and will pass you as if you were idling. I bought the 155 to have fun.. not to work on and take to a dealer all the time.

I've installed a good Marine Sony with a remote and a better set of speakers, but as all you guys know that own a Speedster.... there is a lot of wind noise and you have to crank it up in order to hear it. The person facing the rear is the only one that can hear both speakers running down the lake. I love to get into a cove and put on some good tunes and be able to hear all the sounds. Just don't take a nap and wake up to a dead battery. I have 2 now. LOL I also carry a set of jumper cables for those of you that don't.

I'll take the 155 over the 255 any day unless I'm in your 255. LOL Burns less gas also and you don't have to run priemum - but I do.

One thing all you guys need to invest in is Hydro-Turf. My wife and I installed it in 30 minutes and took another 30 minutes going over it to make sure we had it secure with no air bubbles - but there were none found. It gives a great look and a towel will suck any water that gets into it after a day on the lake.

I live 1 block from one of many ramps on West Point Lake on the Georgia side and I can be found at the Southern Harbor on Friday and Saturday, eating, turning up a few and they have good live music. Hope to see you on the lake. I'll be doing about 35 untill I get the need to do some S's and stand it on it's nose.
