Anybody out there that can explain to me how to replace a Speed Sensor for a 2000 RX?

Much obliged in advance....

Karl

unplug the connector from it both sides disconnected, then unscrew the plastic nut around it, remove it from the hull, there will be sealant on it so you will have to work it out....when you install the new one I like using a sealant called 3m 5200 when installing thru-hull fittings. Use fast cure if you want to be back on the water soon after.

Do I need to remove anything to access this area where the speed sensor wire goes through the hull....I twisted the outer nut off...do I unscrew something else? I don't have access to what is behind the hull yet.

Thanks in advance.

please add your ski information to your avatar. I know it is tight on the xp's, you should be able to see it in the port aft builge area coming through the hull in the same spot, I am not familier enough with your hull to know if anything needs to be removed for access, it will be located on the inside of the hull right where it goes in from the outside though

....part #37 is what is at the hull.

once you pull the first nut, you will need to remove the 2-3 wires from the connector so that you can pull them out from the outside, then remove your speed sensor and replace it, if that is the problem you found. I am sorry some times I get mixed up with boat pressure speedo's, this is all electronic, disconnect the 2-3 wire connector inside your hull, then remove the wires from the plastic connect using a terminal tool or such, then you can pull the wires out of the back of the hull and remove the sensor.

for the thru hull fitting, the outer nut is the water tight seal on the wire, you can leave that alone, or loosen it but don't try to pull the terminals through it, the back nut should be unscrewed, use a terminal tool to take the female terminals out of the housing, the wires will come right out.
