Last year I upgraded the speakers on the boat to some Alpines along with an amp. I never added a sub as I was just looking for some improved sound. I have to say that I really enjoyed the Alpines until last weekend.

I had a guest on the boat really crank up a song and that they liked while we were chilling on the water which was fine, but when the next song came on through the ipod, the DB level was too high and it was all distorted. Now I am afraid that one of my speakers in blown and has distortion at any volume level.

I was going to spend the money to get these.

SW-650 B - Wet Sounds 6.5" 100W RMS Marine Coaxial Speakers

The question is, are they worth it? I don't mind spending the money for good speakers, but I don't want to waste money if something else will be just as good.

Opinions? Thanks in advance!!

Wets sounds are expensive, but if you have the money, go for it. They are worth every penny.

Wet Sounds are really good but it costs way more than POLK MM651UM/MM651. I got Exile SX65M popular in other boats(that's what I put in my boat, Got 25% off in the off-season, otherwise I was going to put JL or MM651UM).

Wetsounds are easily one of the top 2 marine speakers. You can't go wrong and an amp will have a hard time blowing them with 100rms watts.

The Polk UM series is what i went with. I got 8 of them waiting to go in. Im hoping to start today. Give me a few days and ill let ya know how they sound.

The Polks are about 1/2 the price of the Wetsounds. The question is, "Are the Polk speakers in the same ball park as the Wetsounds?"

I would much rather just get the Polks but if you all think that the Wet Sounds blow the doors of the Polk speakers in quality, then I will spend the extra cash.

Do you have any near by shop, where you could listen to both of them? Amp plays a big role too since our boat in-stock stereo system isn't enough powerful to push our speakers (not talking about Jensen crap they put in the boat) to limit

Thats where i couldnt really justify the difference in price. The wetsounds do sound better, but i didnt think it was worth the price difference. Of course I was also buying 8 of them. If i was only lookin for 4, i might spend the extra money. JL audio is also an excellent choice. The JL and Polk can be found on ebay for great prices, where the wet sounds are tough to find anywhere online. It really just comes down to how much money you wanna spend. How many watts were you putting through the alpines?

I am using a JBL 2 channel 145 Watt Amp.

What model JL 6.5 Speakers do you recommend? Remember that I am not using a sub or anything, I am just looking to get good sound from some speakers and be able to kick up the volume a little. The Apines sounded decent enough to me until they didn't.

I am in Orlando, I am not sure who sells this stuff locally.

I ended up getting the POLK MM651UM speakers from Amazon and should have them before the weekend. The continuous power rating on these speakers is 100W with a peak of 200W. I think that was the same rating as the Wet Sound speakers. According to the manual, the Alpines that I had were a Peak of 110W with a continuous of 2 - 35W. I can see now how they got blown.

I just hope the Polk speakers fit on the Speedster 150 and the holes line up.

I think POLK MM651Um got 2.7omh and most of the speakers are 4 ohm.. So you might be able to push them little bit more :-)

You might need adapters, I think hole don't line up with POLK or most of the speakers (somehow my Exile speakers lined up at the exact hole and I was shocked)
